For our client, a French fashion house that focuses on high end fashion, luxury goods and accessories, we have been exclusively retained to search for a Sustainability & Biodiversity Expert that will join their Fashion Sustainability team in Paris. Reporting to the Sustainability Director for Fashion, you will be an integral part of the Fashion team, working closely with the rest of the sustainability team, the Fashion operational teams, and the global sustainability teams, to support ongoing sustainable transformation projects across the Fashion value chain, in relation to our products and everything around them, while also establishing a fashion-wide center of expertise on addressing biodiversity loss.

Through this critical role within the organisation's Fashion's sustainability department, the Sustainability & Biodiversity expert will share subject matter expertise, pilot specific projects, and act as the division's go-to resource for technical and policy advice/support on biodiversity issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Guidelines development and support in their implementation

Design, develop, support and help drive the implementation of guidelines for the conservation of biodiversity (soil health, wildlife friendly practices, ecosystem protection and restoration) across the fashion value chain (materials, direct/ indirect operations, products) in partnership with relevant functional leads

  • Impact measurement, reporting and verification

Test and guide the organisations's approach to biodiversity evaluation, measurement, management, and monitoring, working in close collaboration with other members of the sustainability team at division and corporate level

  • Sustainability content and knowledge management

Act as a key point of contact within the Fashion division on biodiversity, forests, and ecosystem change policy, providing mentoring and building internal capacity

  • External collaborations, partnerships and policy

Participate in, and contribute to, leading external fora and collaborative platforms covering biodiversity issues of relevance to the fashion business

Keep up with the latest developments in corporate action and leading practice on addressing biodiversity loss, with a view to applying said practices to the fashion business, and establishing a center of expertise within the business to analyse and address biodiversity loss

Qualifications:

  • Masters in business, sustainability or environmental sciences and at least 7 years of relevant professional experience in corporate sustainability, either in-house or in applied consulting

  • Strong experience with and knowledge of biodiversity issues for business

  • Strong knowledge of environmental footprint approaches and methodologies - GHG protocol, Science Based Targets for carbon and nature

  • Knowledge of and experience with material, product and enterprise environmental footprinting eg. LCA approaches and product environmental footprint approaches

  • Strong knowledge of collaborative platforms in the Fashion and biodiversity space

  • Strong project management skills

  • Good relationship skills and trust building in a complex environment.

  • Collaborative approach transversally and globally

  • Strong communications skills

  • Critical thinking skills - ability to think analytically and problem solve

  • Information seeking capabilities - in order to fill data gaps, identify critical information needs, and develop workaround solutions as needed

  • High degree of fluency in French and English
