The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) retails and distributes alcoholic beverages throughout the Canadian province of Ontario. Bars, restaurants, liquor stores, etc., all get their liquor from LCBO, and you could be part of the sustainability of this massive operation.

Under the general direction of the Director of Sustainability & Social Impact, the Sustainability Manager will be responsible for supporting LCBO's Sustainability & Social Impact department and the broader business. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong skills in sustainability/ESG programs, interpersonal communication, and time management.

The Sustainability Manager is ultimately accountable for leading the scope of work with a consulting agency and project team on creating and implementing a new 5-year environment, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and implementation plan for the LCBO.

The successful candidate will have:

  • 12+ years of related experience that includes direct experience with ESG programs in a corporate environment, including working with reporting and ratings frameworks

  • Demonstrable knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards and trends

  • 4-year bachelor's degree in business, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience

  • A Master's or graduate degree in ESG, CSR or a related discipline is preferred

  • Understanding of the following concepts and frameworks preferred

    • Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

    • Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

    • Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB)

    • Sustainably Development Goals (SDGs)

    • United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)

    • Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) like ISO 1400, 45001 ..etc

    • Social Return on Investment (SROI) or equivalent

    • Energy-related standards like ISO 50001

  • Experience with sustainability consulting is required (including sustainability strategy, reporting and impact measurement)

  • Proficiency in public speaking, including the ability to present at project team workshops and lead vendor conversations

As the Sustainability Manager for LCBO, you will:

  • Manage the relationship with consulting agency, scope of work, and business development efforts.

  • Draft thought leadership, as well as internal collateral and pieces of training on sustainability and ESG topics, working closely but independently under the direction of team leadership

  • Manage the development of sustainability/ESG programs and related internal and external reporting, such as materiality assessments, peer benchmarking, stakeholder engagement, gap analysis, metric/KPI identification (in alignment with common sustainability/ESG reporting standards such as GRI)

  • Manage consulting agency project team, review of analysis, work papers and reports and presentation
