We're proudly partnering with Archer Hotel Capital on a retained search to appoint a Sustainability Manager: a newly created position and based in the London office.

Archer is a specialist European hotel investment firm jointly owned by affiliates of APG Asset Management and GIC. Archer owns one of the best quality hotel portfolios in Europe comprising of 12 hotels with a gross asset value of circa €2bn. This is an exciting time to join this agile and entrepreneurial investment firm with a commitment to ambitious growth plans.

Archer's new Sustainability Manager will create and lead the next iteration of the firm's long-held commitment to Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) factors across the portfolio. Archer aspires to have the highest quality, most environmentally and socially responsible hotel portfolio in Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Operational Committee, and other key stakeholders, to create an ESG and sustainability strategy to be rolled out at fund and portfolio asset level.

  • Championing innovation in sustainability and ownership of all aspects of sustainability delivery across portfolio projects including value enhancement, ROI and operational activities.

  • Acting as an internal advisor to colleagues across the business on relevant topics of ESG and sustainability, driving engagement across the team, including construction and renovation projects.

  • Building relationships and contacts within the brands and hotel operators to push sustainable, environmental and socially responsible business practices.

  • Develop and monitor bespoke ESG plans for each of the assets within the portfolio, and at fund level.

  • Main point of contact for hotel teams and external consultants managing GRESB, BREEAM, CRREM, Paris Agreement, Science Based Target Initiative, Energy Auditing, Waste services, certifications and air quality assessments.

  • Develop and implement a Net Zero Carbon strategy

  • Chair the ESG Committee

  • Representing Archer and participating in industry-facing programmes, real estate sustainability bodies and partnership organisations

Desirable competencies and experience sought:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and growing strong business relationships and to be able to present complex sustainability issues and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

  • An agile self- starter who enjoys a fast-paced, dynamic and ever-changing environment.

  • Strategic and commercial mindset to draw insights from various sources and metrics to provide commercial recommendations to the business.

  • Demonstrate a passion and holistic knowledge of sustainability and wider environmental and social issues for the real estate industry. Any experience in the hotel sector is advantageous.

  • An understanding of emerging areas in sustainability such as wellbeing, social value and climate resilience.

  • Technical knowledge in the areas of sustainability, environmental management, environmental legislation or energy management.

  • Demonstrable experience of implementation and certification of environmental management systems (ISO14001, ISO 50001), building sustainability performance certifications (BREEAM) as well as the implementation of a climate change strategy (GHG protocol, energy efficiency measures, analysis of energy markets, renewable energy solutions, etc.), preferably in the real estate market.

  • Data analysis and visualisation skills, comfortable working with large datasets in multiple formats.

  • When travel is possible, ability to travel across Europe on a regular basis (such as once a month).
