Acre has been engaged to hire a sustainability professional to work closely with the Head of Responsible Investment to support the creation of investment value from the sustainability agenda through ESG risk management and value creation.

Our client is a top tier Private Equity firm focused on investing exclusively in the emerging markets with a growing portfolio of investments in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Currently with circa $8 Billion in funds under management, their investor's capital is put to work in c.70 companies employing over 114,000 people. Combining the expertise of over 100 investment professionals in nine countries, our client identifies investment opportunities in three areas: private equity, energy and real estate.

The key responsibility of this role is to use knowledge and experience of sustainability to provide subject matter expertise to support and drive the ESG agenda such that our client retains its leadership position as a responsible investor. Including:

  • Ensuring that the firm's ESG policies and procedures are implemented uniformly across all sectors (consumer, financials, healthcare, industrial; real estate; energy) and regions
  • Refining and developing existing methodologies to create value from non-financial factors across all sectors
  • Driving the delivery of positive social and environmental outcomes from its portfolio companies
  • Seeking ways to improve governance structures and business integrity across portfolio companies
  • Screening new potential portfolio companies to identify which ESG issues are most material and present greatest risk/opportunity
  • Developing ESG reporting for internal and external purposes
  • Communicating track record and progress at external fora

The successful candidate will have ESG/sustainability experience gained from a variety of possible backgrounds including ESG/sustainability consultancy, multilateral organizations and investment banks with responsible investment commitments, asset management firms and impact investors. Also required:

  • Experience gained in emerging markets in managing sustainability issues
  • Ability to work autonomously and competently across a wide range of ESG topics with investment managers and the senior management of companies.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with proven ability to influence and have impact
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline (economics, development studies, finance, environment management, social sciences)
  • Specific expertise in a key area in the ESG field - safety, environmental management, social/labor standards, supply chain, ethics, corporate governance
  • Flexibility for international travel
