Director of Sustainable Economy WWF Hero

Reporting to the Executive Director of Advocacy and Campaigns; the successful candidate will play a key role in influencing businesses and policy makers to help identify and implement sustainable economic models and practices.

The Director of Sustainable Economy will lead the sustainable economy strategy and will have oversight for the successful delivery of programmes to help stakeholders drive positive change in the financial sector, government economic policy and in the wider economic discourse.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing the strategic direction, providing leadership, management and guidance to teams working across Blue & Green Economy, Sustainable Finance, Trade and Development
  • Engaging with and influencing financial and official institutions (e.g. hedge funds, pension funds, private equity firms) instrumental in setting and leading the transition to a sustainable economic system
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across the government, business and financial sectors to create new models and approaches for sustainable economic development
  • Coordinating sustainable economy and sustainable finance efforts across the organisation to ensure programmatic coherence and consistency
  • Developing links and strategic relationships with other parts of the WWF global network, including the Finance and Markets Practices
  • Engaging with scientific experts, fundraising and corporate partnerships teams across the organisation to develop partnerships as appropriate
The successful candidate will have significant experience; this might be from government and/or in the financial sector, for example banking, asset management, international finance, financial regulatory authorities, equity markets, or equivalent institutions.

In addition, you will have:

  • A deep understanding of the sustainable economy landscape with experience of implementing a significant sustainable model or practice within a leading financial, business or governmental institution
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and influencing key stakeholders, changing opinions, practices and creating new models to achieve environmental sustainability
  • Significant experience of leading, managing and developing teams
  • Understanding of how international NGOs work
