Acre has been engaged by a leading West African focussed private equity firm based in Lagos, Nigeria, to recruit an ESG Manager.
Working across multi sectors, including but not limited to healthcare, agriculture, education, light manufacturing, and consumer goods the firms key ideals are that successful investing is not incompatible with responsible investing.
The ESG Manager is an exciting new role and represents the first full-time, dedicated ESG professional within the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and monitoring of ESG processes and policies within the firm and across portfolio companies in compliance with international best practices, IFC Performance Standards and national regulations. It will report directly to the CEO.
Manage and monitor the firm's business integrity policies and procedures and ensure compliance across portfolio companies
Manage all firm and portfolio-level ESG obligations
Lead proactive community and stakeholder engagement in communities the firm invests in
Conduct ESG training for firm employees and associates, and coordinate portfolio-level ESG training and development programs.
Manage environmental, health & safety (EH&S) matters in accordance with international best practices, firm policy and regulatory requirements across all portfolio companies
Report frameworks for ESG standards, IFC performance standards
Represent the firm at key ESG and private equity industry events
Experience and Competencies
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in sustainability or international development in the private or public sectors (experience gained at DFIs particularly welcome)
Practical experience with ESG due diligence, audits, implementation and monitoring of Action Plans and E&S Management systems
Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills, with the ability to effect organisational change and influence senior management and Investment Committee
Work effectively with all levels of employees and Management (both at firm and portfolio levels)
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyse data;
Requires advanced written communication and presentation skills;
Post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
Willingness to travel and work on-site at portfolio companies when required is key part of the role
