Development Partners International (DPI) has retained Acre to hire an ESG Specialist to support its consistent growth and success. DPI is an innovative pan-African private equity firm managing over US$ 1.5bn of assets, operating across 29 countries, with a 100% African investment team and with over 45% of the DPI team made up of women, this is a prestigious business to join.

This is an exciting new role to create long-term value in the industry and be part of further establishing DPI's reputation for having world class Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. As a proactive and responsible investor, the role involves travel to portfolio companies, engaging with senior management, in support of the continual improvement of ESG performance and enhance the commercial success.

The successful candidate will have sustainability experience in a technical capacity and must be fluent in French.

Candidate attributes:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills at various levels - internally and externally with investors and senior management teams
  • Highly organised and process-driven
  • Capable of developing an ESG tracking system to increase portfolio level efficiency
  • Willing to take initiative - particularly around improving measurement and tracking systems and processes

Previous experience:

  • The candidate will have social and environmental assessment and monitoring/ reporting experience. This may be from a variety of industry backgrounds
  • Working with companies in creating environmental, social, sustainability value and for external stakeholders in the context of sustainable development, will be considered favourably.
  • Experience in emerging markets, ideally in Africa, is beneficial

Language Requirements: Fluency in both English and French required, including business literacy and excellence in written work in both languages.


  • Understanding of development impact matrices in measuring sustainability
  • Proficiency with international environmental and/or social standards, such as IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements, The World Bank Group General Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, relevant environmental and social ISO accreditations or similar.
  • Working knowledge of Arabic would be beneficial
