Acre is delighted to have been retained by Finlays, in their search for a Group Head of Sustainability, to lead on embedding and delivering upon the 'Finlays Sustainable Future Strategy' (FSFS) across the entire Group.

Finlays, part of the global conglomerate Swire Group, has a rich 200-year history in producing, packing and supplying tea, coffee and botanicals to its global customer base. With 'sustainable' being one of the organisation's core values, Finlays has strived to continuously improve and influence social and environmental standards across the whole tea, coffee and botanicals supply chain.

Reporting to the Group Director of Corporate Affairs, and managing a team of 2; the Group Head of Sustainability will ensure the FSFS strategy enhances business performance whilst supporting the long-term interests of key stakeholders, its employees and the communities in which the organisation operates.

Accountabilities include

  • Leading the delivery of the 'Finlays Sustainable Future Strategy' throughout the company ensuring the necessary structure, processes and governance is in place
  • Collaborating with Finlays' other business units and functional teams, supporting them in the formulation and delivery of sustainability accountabilities in line with their overall functional strategies
  • Securing and leveraging senior level commitment and support for integrating sustainability into core decision making processes and long-term business planning
  • Serving as the go-to expert for all sustainability inquiries by the global customer base
  • Engaging and influencing actively with sector-relevant industry associations, membership bodies and stakeholder forums

The successful candidate will have experience on the ground with strong exposure across social and environmental topics preferably within the food and beverage sector, ideally across multiple commodities.

Requirements include

  • A proven and established background in sustainability, ideally from a global perspective
  • Substantial experience managing and influencing internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues at all levels, community representatives and NGOs
  • Ability to work in diverse cultures with an understanding of the different nuances in international business environments
  • Experience in leading, empowering and developing teams
  • A good communicator and leader who is able to balance sustainability requirements with commercial realities
  • Willingness to travel internationally to Sri-Lanka, Kenya, China and the USA as key destinations
