Acre is delighted to partner with Bettercoal in their search for a Head of Standards and Assurance. Bettercoal is a global, not-for-profit initiative established by a group of major European utilities to promote the continuous improvement in the mining and sourcing of coal for the benefit of all people impacted by the industry, workers and coal mining communities

Responsible mining is essential to the sustainable growth of our societies, and coal still has a significant role to play in the economy through its multiple uses as a source of energy. Reporting into the Executive Director, the Head of Standards and Assurance will provide technical leadership of Bettercoal's standards and processes, overseeing industry wide advancement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of Bettercoal's Impacts and Monitoring and Evaluation programme
  • Providing leadership across Bettercoal's standards and programmes, assurance processes, impact assessment and reporting
  • Driving the implementation and monitoring of Supplier Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP)
  • Representing Bettercoal at industry forums, events and international meetings
  • Support the growth and expansion of Bettercoal
  • Coordinating the translation of standards documentation into multiple languages as appropriate, principally Russian and Spanish

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to guide key relationships with Bettercoal and its stakeholders as well as manage liaisons within ISEAL; experience of working with or within a standards association is therefore imperative.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in the mining sector and knowledge of material and social sustainability issues facing the industry
  • A track record of developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure and improve programmes within corporate responsibility
  • Understanding of standards and assurance systems, with technical credibility to represent Bettercoal at a range of events and forums
  • Ability to engage and develop strong, consultative relationships with stakeholders at a variety of levels, internally and externally
  • Business-level Russian and/or Spanish is highly desirable but not essential

This position presents a fantastic and unique opportunity to drive continuous improvement in the mining sector, affecting positive social change across the industry and its supply chains.

Flexible location with 20-25% travel
