Acre is delighted to be retained by a leading FTSE 50 product wholesale and distribution business to identify a Head of Sustainability covering Continental Europe.

In this newly created position, you will report directly to the Division's Managing Director and take responsibility for developing and implementing a European-wide sustainability strategy that supports the shifting agenda across sixteen countries.

As part of this broader sustainability strategy, you will develop a forward-looking plan around how the business will react to the growing restrictions on plastics by developing competitive value propositions and enabling the business to deliver alternative products to customers.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop an impactful sustainability strategy for the division which seeks to compliment the Group strategy, mitigate risk and create commercial opportunity through environmental and social sustainability principles
  • Spearhead engagement with key business leaders across Continental Europe and advise customers on challenges as the go-to sustainability expert for the division
  • Carry out industry benchmarks and participate in industry and governmental round tables to identify and implement responses to emerging sustainability trends
  • Identify and prioritise focus areas for sustainability, such as the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the issue of single use plastics
  • Develop sustainability reports and communications for key internal and external stakeholders

Strong knowledge of material sustainability issues is a must, specifically in the context of single use plastics, and previous experience of product sustainability, circular economy and packaging would be highly advantageous.

Experience Required:

  • A demonstrable track record in creating and implementing a sustainability strategy and experience of material supply chains, plastics, product and policy
  • A natural influencer, able to facilitate interest and engagement with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to design and execute initiatives to address resource conservation and the circular economy
  • A natural problem solver; able to drive external consultation and support customers with challenging and strategic sustainability issues
  • A self-starter with a flexible, "can-do" approach

This newly created, senior position provides you with a unique opportunity to influence commercial decision making across sixteen European countries, catalysing valuable sustainability knowledge and buy-in throughout the business's value chain.
