Core activities

Future-Fit Foundation is a small team with a wide reach. The core activities span the following areas:

  • Analysis and research: drawing together best-in-class thinking across social and environmental issues, seeking to present it in ways that offer clarity and guidance to companies and investors.
  • Practical tools and frameworks: developing useful and usable tools that can help companies - and those who invest in them - to measure, manage and report on their true impact.
  • Business collaborations: engaging with companies to catalyze change and facilitate adoption of the Benchmark.
  • Investor engagement: working with investors to accelerate usage of the Benchmark to help quantify and manage systemic risks within portfolios.
  • Partnerships: enabling others to develop products and services that build on the Benchmark in ways that seek to accelerate awareness and the pursuit of future-fitness.
  • Communication: openly sharing tools and information and stimulating dialogue on the need to rethink how we value the impact of business across the socio-economic system.

This role

Future-Fit Foundation has been working with Shell Foundation (SF) and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) to develop a tool that uses a new data-gathering approach to create analysis and generate reports on the environmental and social impact of any given enterprise, presenting that information in the context of the existing methodology of the Future-Fit Business Benchmark.

Building on the progress made during the first phase of this work in 2017-18, Future-Fit will work with a number of social enterprises from Shell Foundation's portfolio of partners, using existing data to generate reports on their environmental and social impacts, and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The goal of the project is ultimately to create a tool that will help summarize and present this information to investors, with the intention of helping to inform their decisions on how to direct capital.

Specific tasks

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the whole Future-Fit team, and in particular the overall project lead, Kevin Horgan (Impact Evaluation Manager). This role will require collaborative working, and will have opportunities for the candidate to take the lead on certain aspects and relationships.

  • Help the continuing development of the impact valuation and analysis methodology.
  • Support the outline of specifications for the online tool to be used by the partner organizations.
  • Lead an RFP process to identify and evaluate vendors who can develop the tool.
  • Represent Future-Fit Foundation in the ongoing relationship with the successful vendor as the tool is developed and improved.
  • Contribute to analyzing and evaluating the performance of the tool itself after each stage of the pilot, and to suggesting and implementing improvements.
  • Help produce reports on the progress of the project.
  • Represent Future-Fit Foundation at external events to speak about the findings of the project.
  • Help support the enterprises using the tool as part of the pilot.

Desired skills include:

  • Experience in impact measurement, corporate reporting, or professional services, allied with an understanding of how these different elements contribute to the achievement of a sustainable planet and society.
  • Good knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
  • Proven project management and risk escalation track record.
  • Ability to think laterally, creatively and strategically, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop a simple, yet compelling response.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills.
  • An appetite for working in an entrepreneurial environment.

Your application

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract, which will run from the starting date to the end of Q2 2020, with the intention of extending the role beyond this time frame for the right candidate and subject to appropriate funding. The role will be based primarily in central London, with the ability for flexible working and occasional international travel.
