Acre is delighted to partner with BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) to help appoint a Managing Director, Partnership Development. This leadership position reporting to the CEO and based in one of BSR's offices from amongst New York, San Francisco and Paris, will oversee BSR's generation and delivery of projects supported by funding from foundations and government entities.

BSR is a global nonprofit organization that works with its network of more than 250 member companies to build a just and sustainable world. From its offices in Asia, Europe, and North America, BSR develops sustainable business strategies and solutions through consulting, research, and cross-sector collaboration.

POSITION OVERVIEW

BSR's Grants portfolio focuses on charitable foundations, public funders such as bilateral donor agencies and corporate foundations. Funding from these sources enables BSR to undertake innovative projects that advance the sustainability agenda, working with partners both from inside and outside the private sector.

BSR's projects aim to generate impact at both policy (corporate and government) level, and directly in the lives of people and communities in all corners of the globe. Illustrative projects supported through grant funding include the HERproject, which improves the health and well-being of women working in global supply chains, to the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network, a large-scale effort to ensure ethical business practices in the global shipping industry, to their efforts through We Mean Business, a global coalition of non-profit organizations advancing business commitments and policy advocacy in support of a transition to a clean energy economy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The position is responsible for:

  • Oversight of a six-person government and foundations team based on Europe, North America and Asia, which:
  • Conducts outreach to funders on BSR's behalf
  • Coordinates with other BSR teams generating and delivering grant-supported projects
  • Conducts market intelligence on the interests of funders relevant to BSR's work to promote sustainability
  • Outreach and development efforts to secure funding comprising approximately 25% of BSR's annual budget.
  • Generation of project concepts at the intersection of BSR's strategy and the interests of funders
  • Representation of our grants portfolio within BSR's "Engagement Leadership Team," a senior team that is responsible for shaping the programmatic priorities and initiatives for BSR.
  • Collaboration with other organizational leaders to build participation on the part of BSR's 250+ member companies in the projects supported by the grants portfolio.
  • Collaboration with Project Directors to ensure effective delivery of grant-supported projects.
  • Working with other BSR teams on matters including oversight of grant compliance, including negotiation of grant terms and conditions.

EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Strong organizational leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively both internally and with external partners from multiple sectors.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating funding opportunities, ideally with a combination of the types of funders (charitable foundations, public sector funders, and corporate foundations) critical to BSR's grants portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of multiple subject matter areas crucial to BSR's work to advance sustainable business, i.e., human rights, climate change, women's empowerment, inclusive economic growth.
  • Keen understanding of the value of partnerships between organizations in different sectors (i.e., business, civil society, public sector)
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills, including those directly relevant to generating opportunities with funders.
  • Global outlook and experience, and ability and desire to work in a global organization, with a global team.
