Acre is delighted to partner with LEGO, the global leader in toy production. Following LEGO's commitment to find sustainable alternatives to its core materials by 2030 we are recruiting for a Senior Director, Sustainable Materials Strategy & Innovation to help define and shape the strategic direction for LEGO sustainable materials.

The Senior Director of Sustainable Materials & Strategy will lead deep functional sustainability experts and is the key link between the sustainability and engineering departments. Working in collaboration this role will set new standards for sustainable construction toys from a full value chain perspective.


  • Set and maintain the strategic direction for 2030 Sustainable Materials, and 2025 Sustainable Packaging programmes within the LEGO Group
  • Balance sustainability credentials, communication requirements, and technical implementation, to ensure continuous, visible and practical progress towards LEGO's 2025 and 2030 goals
  • Act as the key link between the SM2030 strategy group and its complementary implementation steering group
  • Through exemplary stakeholder engagement and management, engage and solve difficult trade-offs to maintain cost-effective progress yet drive sustainability through the entire product and packaging value chain
  • Combine knowledge and insights from a range of functional areas within LEGO to develop and recommend a clear and pragmatic SM2030 strategic direction
  • Build and manage a team of deep functional experts in the field of product and packaging sustainability

You will be a consummate team player able to interact and engage with a globally based team of functional experts and thought leaders that create real impact both inside and outside the LEGO Group. Furthermore, you will be experienced managing complex groups of internal and external stakeholders, often with opposing views.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, materials or sustainability subject and/or master's degree in sustainability
  • Experience of programme management with multiple, complex and opposing stakeholders
  • Able to lead and motivate deep sustainability functional experts to combine business logic with sustainability requirement
  • Managing a complex change programme with long and short delivery horizons
  • Sustainability/CSR development and implementation in a global FMCG
  • Technical knowledge of materials/feedstocks/packaging and understanding of sustainability measurement (incl. LCA), analysis and improvement
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
