Our client, a leading real estate development company who deliver major commercial, residential and educational developments across the UK, are looking to hire a new Senior Health and Safety Manager. Reporting directly into the board, this newly created position will be responsible for defining, developing and delivering the organisational health and safety strategy. You will need to build a strong culture, and develop relationships with key contractors, internal working groups and senior management to ensure all obligations to Health and Safety are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the organisation's Health & Safety Policy. You'll need to take ownership of the company policy and gain executive management support, as well as building a strong system of internal control and safety culture amongst all staff.
  • On an annual basis, review current strategies and policies in line with Health & Safety requirements, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer all relevant amendments and new safety arrangements to be adopted.
  • In consultation with the Health & Safety Steering Committee, draw up, maintain and monitor performance against the company's safety KPIs and objectives and report on these as appropriate.
  • Lead the organisation's compliance strategy for CDM Regulations. Develop and distribute a manual which defines the organisation's written instructions on CDM, including how client duties are discharged and how other duty holders are discharging responsibilities.
  • In conjunction with key colleagues, define, agree and implement practices and procedures to reach strategic safety goals, delivering safe and secure environments in all areas of the group and ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety, CDM and Fire related legislation.
  • Deliver the Health & Safety Board Reports to the COO and Steering Committee on all aspects of Health & Safety, identifying risks and priority areas for action and review as well as a full evaluation of accident and incident statistics for the period.
  • Develop and chair the Health & Safety Committee, demonstrating excellent communication ability, organisational practice and leadership skills.

To succeed, you'll need:

  • A Degree in Occupational Safety, a recognised Safety Diploma, or equivalent
  • Desirable qualifications include Diploma in Fire Prevention, NEBOSH Fire Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate,
  • Demonstrable experience working with fire safety and a working knowledge of emergency planning.
  • Experience of devising and delivering training programmes
  • CDM experience
