Our client is a top 25 investment management group with fund management teams in Europe, North America and Asia. They have established a strong core responsible investment capability through a global ESG team delivering research, integration and engagement services. This is a newly created role to lead on those efforts in ASIAPAC and drive understanding of how sustainability themes can be used to deliver outperformance in both Fixed Income and Equities through the development of propriety research with a sustainability focus.

Key responsibilities:

  • A senior individual capable of adding value to the investment process through company level research by highlighting material ESG factors relevant to companies, as a function of their business model and geographic sphere of operations.
  • To deliver an active ownership strategy for the region, working with investment teams to maximise their interactions with investee companies.
  • To train and manage a team of analysts based in Asia.
  • Supporting both equities and fixed income analysts who are deeply embedded in local Asian markets to grow stronger awareness of ESG materiality and investment relevance of ESG factors
  • Demonstrating and cultivating best in class, sustainability driven, research and valuation methods.
  • Representing the firm and the Asian ESG community more generally in public forums and in relevant investor networks/collaborative working groups.

Experience Sought:

  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience
  • Proven research track record, preferably with a strong sustainability focus
  • Deep Asia expertise and interest, strong understanding of corporate governance trends and challenges in the region, strong awareness of dynamics of political and economic systems and diversity in the region
  • Strong ability to represent the firm in public forums, collaborative working groups
  • Ability to demonstrate the impact of sustainability factors on valuation methods/processes
  • Experience in managing and motivating multi-skilled and generalist employee teams
  • Spoken/written fluency in at least one Asian language highly desirable
