Apply for this job

We’re looking for a natural leader to join The Gold Standard as their new CEO.

You will lead a highly impactful organisation and a talented global team, and drive a strategy with a highly engaged board. Day to day you will contribute meaningfully to the global sustainability policy debate and SDGs whilst expanding your network.

  About The Gold Standard

The Gold Standard is internationally renowned for the role it plays in managing best practice standards for climate and sustainable development interventions. You will be working with a range of partner organisations including development agencies, public institutions, non-profits and corporates to create significant value for thousands of communities and the global environment.

Due to significant expansion in both market-share and their scope of activities, this pioneering organisation is recruiting a new Chief Executive to lead their next stage of growth. Reporting directly to the Board and working alongside internationally renowned professionals, you will ensure the organisation maintains its leading position, while successfully driving key strategic initiatives.

The Gold Standard was established in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs. Now it has more than 80 NGO supporters and over 1400 projects in more than 80 countries; creating billions of dollars of shared value from climate and development action worldwide.

The Gold Standard is headquartered in Geneva, but other mainland European hubs will be considered for the role.

  Key responsibilities

As well as ensuring operational excellence, a critical part of your mission will be to grow and leverage a network of public and international donor organisations in order to catalyse more ambitious climate action. In addition you will:

  • Develop and implement the vision and strategic plan with the Board of Directors
  • Lead and manage a global, senior management team
  • Pro-actively engage and maintain a positive dialogue with the organisation's key stakeholders including international NGO partners, governments, corporations and multi-lateral agencies
  • Identify new funding sources and develop fundraising plans
  • Oversee financial planning & management including budgeting and cash flow forecasting
  • Work closely with The Gold Standard Technical Governance Committee, a diverse body of independent experts that provides technical oversight and governance

Your experience

Addressing climate change and sustainable development requires technical leadership, diversity and a global mindset.  Knowledge and experience of the Sustainable Development Goals and/or climate change is crucial. In addition you will have:

  • Successful experience within a comparable leadership position
  • Outstanding people management skills
  • Experience of securing grant funding from government bodies and other organisations
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, demonstrated by speaking engagements
  • The ability and credibility to contribute to the global sustainability policy debate
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. A second language (particularly French, Spanish or German) would be a strong advantage but is not essential

Within this position, you will have the opportunity to build your network of public and international donor organisations, leading a collaborative team to mobilise the market behind the Gold Standard’s mission.

This is a global post, with the opportunity to be based from any major city within mainland Europe. For more information please contact Caitlin Murrell, at Caitlin.murrell@acre.com.
