11 of the Best Health and Safety Blogs You’ve Probably Never Read

We all want to keep safe and healthy in the workplace as well as on our way to and from work, but where do we turn to forthe best advice?

There is a veritable plethora of bloggers out there, all sharing best practice ideas and advice. Now, us kindly folk at Acre list 11 of the best independent bloggers/blogs who regularly impart their health and safety wisdom out there in cyberspace.

1. Judith Hackitt’s Risk Assessment.Judith is chair of the Health and Safety Executive, Britain’s workplace safety and health watchdog. What better place to start than her regular look at everyday issues? She highlights some of the health and safety stories that didn’t make the headlines and gives closer analysis, offering her perspective where she feels it’s needed.

2. Health and safety expert Bridget Gilmour is the founder and director of Hundred Acre, a firm which works with businesses to keep everyone healthy and safe. Her blog contains posts such as how to create a happy and healthy workplace and how important it is to boost staff morale. Built-in desk beds for an afternoon power nap? Yes please. Oh, she didn’t actually mention that last bit. Good idea though…

3. RoSPA Training is a blog written by various people who pride themselves on working with some of the industry’s leading safety professionals. The workplace safety bloghighlights the importance of health and safety at work, up to date safety advice, facts, tips and opinions. Blog posts include driving to work and stress management at work.

4. The Health and Safety Tips website has a blogthat dishes out health and safety advice (funnily enough) for beginners, as well as for established professionals in the health and safety field. John Johnston set up the site in 2004 and the blog covers everything from the dangers of asbestos to the essential knowledge of driving fork lift trucks on roads.

5. Duncan Spencer is safety manager at Waitrose and is responsible for health and safety governance for the John Lewis Partnership. His blogcovers topics from why feeling unsafe can make people feel safer to whether there is too much health and safety law.

6. Health and safety consultancy Just Health and Safety highlights topical news stories in its blog (recent blog post on self-employment and health and safety law being just one) and advice on how to change bad habits in the workplace.

7. Alan Dransfield is a Freedom of Information and Health and Safety Advisor. His blog is aimed at shaming those who ignore health and safetyand those who abuse the Freedom of Information Act out of laziness, corruption or to cover up incompetence.

8. We Do Training is a firm that deals directly with a wide range of accredited training providers, advertising their training courses. From all you need to know about asbestos to in depth knowledge on how to land a health and safety director role, the company blog has it covered.

9. Michael Emery is a career safety professional who’s managed health and safety for several leading organisations, household names at home and abroad. He writes the blog for his firmSecureus Health & Safety which focuses heavily on safety coaching, because….well, that’s where Michael’s expertise lies. And it’s useful stuff.

10. Envesca is one of the UK’s leading health and safety and food safety training companies, working with clients all over the country. Blog postsare varied and cover a multitude of health and safety issues from ten steps to running a safe event to working at height and moving goods safely.

11. Safecontractor is one of the fastest growing health and safety assessment schemes in the UK, with more than 263 major clients and over 23,000 contractor members. The blog revealshealth and safety myths, recommends ways to implement sustainability into the business and sheds light on the work time directive.​
