Zurich UK has announced a new accreditation scheme which will track the sustainability performance of its suppliers.
The Swiss insurance firm’s British branch hopes the flagship initiative will encourage its UK suppliers to be more transparent and adopt greater sustainable practices at work.
The Supplier Accreditation Scheme will be rolled out across the insurance firm’s entire UK supplier base.
So far, six suppliers have received gold accreditations which will be valid for three years. They are: Royal Mail, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, business and brand communications specialists RR Donnelley (RRD), catering company Sodexo, delivery management company Whistl and stationery specialists WildHearts.
Sophie Timms, head of UK Corporate Affairs at Zurich UK, said: “Zurich is committed to sustainability and ensuring that our business activities have a positive impact on society, the environment and the economy.
“We want to work with suppliers who share the same ethos so we’ve launched the Supplier Accreditation Scheme to encourage them to do the right thing.
“We’re delighted to see that some of our suppliers are already embracing the behaviours and values which we firmly believe are best for business, customers, their employees and society.
“We hope we can work with more of our suppliers to help drive a movement for further change and embed sustainability across our whole supply chain.”
Businesses will have to initially complete a questionnaire about their CSR activities, which covers environmental impact, workplace rights, diversity and inclusion, governance and community activity. The responses will be graded by Zurich, and firms will be awarded gold, silver or bronze accreditation.
