The Impact You Will Have

As the Director of Sustainability and Social Impact, you will bring an entrepreneurial spirit, lead on key SSI projects, and implement programs that improve environmental building decarbonization, energy, waste, water, well-being, and community impact. You will work closely with the Head of SSI and across the organization to lead, research, design, and implement effective strategies per the responsibilities below. There will be an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and extend impact beyond EQ through our ownership's network.

Overview of Job Functions

  • Lead SSI initiatives related to environmental sustainability and data management from a strategic and execution standpoint while helping shape how SSI is embedded within the company culture.

  • Work closely with the Head of SSI and with many internal partners to create and execute SSI initiatives across EQ Office at asset and portfolio levels in major markets such as Atlanta, Boston, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and others. Examples include energy, waste and water efficiency technology deployment, implementation of operational best practices, and strategic outreach campaigns.

  • Manage, analyze, and present environmental performance data including energy, water, and waste consumption and costs; benchmark performance; and monitor and interpret performance trends.

  • Collaborate with EQ Office's Corporate and Operations business areas, including Engineering, Leasing, and Investment.

  • Partner with the Head of SSI and other internal leaders on strategy development and roll-out, as well as on priority projects related to responsible sourcing and stakeholder engagement.

  • Oversee program and project management of SSI-related programs, including national and local social impact partnerships and environmental sustainability programs.

  • Drive SSI data management and reporting, both internally and externally, and support SSI communications, helping ensure consistent and accurate representation across all channels.

    • Coordinate content development for EQ Office's SSI disclosures.

    • Provide subject matter expertise and support for industry reporting initiatives, such as GRESB and GRI.

  • Research, investigate, and be an internal subject matter expert on industry trends, best practices, and environmental sustainability and ESG data management topics.

People Leadership

  • Supervise a Sustainability Analyst, providing mentorship, work direction, training, skills, and overall professional growth.

  • Manage relationships with third-party consultants, technical experts, and vendors that support the company's SSI efforts.

  • Project managing other team members on marquee projects related to environmental sustainability and decarbonization.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor's degree or comparable combination of education and experience.

  • 10 or more years of relevant professional experience in corporate sustainability and social impact preferred, with a focus on environmental and ESG data management expertise.

  • A passion for sustainability issues, disclosure practices, industry-wide trends, and the relevance of sustainability issues to the real estate industry.

  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals across corporate disciplines and departments.

  • Ability to take the lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • High level of independence, ability to innovate, and comfortable taking ownership and primary responsibility for deliverables.

  • Ability to work in EQ's office Monday - Friday.

  • Ability to travel within the US approximately 10-15% of the time.

While prior experience in real estate sustainability, building decarbonization performance and Energy Star Portfolio Manager is highly useful for this role, what's most important to EQ Office is an entrepreneurial mindset, leadership, innovation, creativity, and passion to work in the real estate sector and thoughtfully apply your environmental sustainability knowledge and experience from other industries. Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary Range:$180,000 - $220,000 per year

Total Direct Compensation:This job is also eligible for discretionary bonus and incentive compensation on an annual basis.
