Acre has partnered with a startup developing a FOAK CCUS solution set to be the single answer to decarbonizing world scale logistics infrastructure. Their total addressable market is over $100B and with virtually no competition; there’s a very high chance of success.

 

 

Based in Houston, TX, we are urgently looking for a Lead Instrumentation & Control Systems / Lead Process Controls Engineer to…

  • Lead all facets of control systems engineering across current pilot projects and future projects from concept and vendor selection, to Factory Acceptance testing, commissioning and trouble shooting.
  • Design, troubleshoot and modify PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, etc.
  • Be a champion of safety and increase our clients functional safety awareness
  • Select and manage various OEMs, system integrators, consultancies, etc. who are involved in control systems and automation. You are the lead engineer accountable for safety and success in controls.
  • Develop and maintain documentation controls and procedures for design, commissioning, testing and troubleshooting
  • Strategically develop a longer-term roadmap for automation and process controls
  • Eventually hire, manage and scale a team of I&C engineers (optional – managerial aspirations not required here)

 

 

To be qualified you have…

  • A B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical) with proven experience leading the design and deployment of advanced automation and control systems in the Oil and Gas, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Specialty Chemicals, Industrial Gas, Power Generation or similar spaces. We need someone who understands how to design and instrument fluid and gas handling systems that one can imagine Carbon Capture systems have.
  • Proven experience developing HMIs, electrical & control schematics, control narratives
  • Experience with Ignition for SCADA and HMI, and experience with industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.
  • Expertise with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation systems including but not limited to: Studio 5000 Logix Designer, FactoryTalk, RSLinx.
  • To be intensely motivated to combat climate change.

 

 

Please note that this position requires participation in one international trip starting this June for a duration of 4 weeks. The successful candidate will be available to start working full time by the end of May.

Based in Houston, the Principal Process Engineer will be responsible for

  • Leading process engineering projects and interfacing with clients and client engineers

Carbon Markets Technical Engagement Lead

A global utilities firm are looking for a Carbon Markets Technical Engagement Lead to help with executing an engagement strategy to create demand for high integrity CDR credits and foster trust in the organisations CDR credits.

 

 

 

The role will support the development of quality criteria, MRV, credible use cases and claims for permanent CDR. They will communicate these positions with external stakeholders with a view to ensuring external standards, policies, regulations and guidance provide an environment supportive of scaling demand for high integrity CDR in a manner consistent with the most up-to-date and relevant science and legislation.

 

 

 

The Carbon Markets Technical Engagement Lead will also identify and develop new potential revenue opportunities for carbon credits outside of the voluntary carbon markets, evaluating the necessary provisions to ensure robust accounting and avoidance of double-counting.

 

 

 

In particular, the role will seek to develop opportunities that allow for claiming of permanent removals within the value chain of power customers.

 

 

 

The role will also support the Group in identifying the role of both the firm and third-party carbon credits in the delivery of carbon targets and wider Group strategy.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support the development of the organisations position on high integrity CDR claims, use cases, quality criteria and MRV
  • Review and contribute to the development of emerging crediting and carbon accounting methodologies, evaluating the impact on carbon projects and communicating implications to the business
  • Support the development of scaling permanent CDR in a manner consistent with the most up-to-date and relevant IPCC science
  • Engage with target-setting standards (e.g. SBTi, VCMI) and other ESG initiatives (e.g. CDP, TCFD, EU CSRD) to communicate the organisations position with a view to generate demand for high-integrity permanent carbon removal credits
  • Draft technical feedback for policy and standards consultations applicable to scale-up of the carbon removals market and building integrity, such as the UK/EU ETS, EU CRCF, EU Green Claims Directive, IC-VCM, VCMI and registry methodologies
  • Engage with external initiatives seeking to build consensus on issues related to integrity of CDR (e.g. Carbon Direct biomass sourcing principles, various MRV initiatives)
  • Investigate opportunities for enhancing data quality and transparency throughout the CDR value chain, engaging with external initiatives where relevant and providing recommendations on relevant systems and processes to senior leadership
  • Support technical reviews of key legislation and standards (e.g. EU CRCF, crediting methodologies) relevant to the production and use of CDR credits, communicating impacts to senior leadership
  • Work with industry groups (e.g. WBCSD, IETA, rethinking removals) to develop guidance and thought leadership on the role of carbon removals in corporate claims
  • Identify opportunities for leveraging regulatory support schemes available to downstream product markets, such as sustainable aviation fuel or hydrogen markets
  • Identify opportunities for delivering carbon removals within the value chains of prospective power customers
  • Support the development and implementation of processes for quantification and risk management relating to carbon removals

Senior Engineer, Interconnections and Grid Analysis

They are looking for an experienced engineer to perform technical analysis to assist in the interconnection process for the different generation projects. They will also be responsible for assisting in other transmission-associated activities and analysis, including interpreting the different market rules as they apply to the interconnection process.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform power flow analysis and market-related evaluations as part of generation and transmission development activities.
  • Provide grid, transmission system planning, and congestion evaluation to assist in development activities mainly in WECC.
  • Review utility and ISO transmission expansion plans to identify potential opportunities.
  • Review utility interconnection studies (feasibility, impact, stability, and facility).
  • Identify areas for new transmission projects based on generation technological shifts and the corresponding impacts ithas on grid behavior.
  • Utilize regulatory and compliance knowledge to identify and evaluate areas of critical impact for projects in the interconnection pipeline.
  • Work with the regulatory team to provide input on queue reforms and process changes as necessary.
  • Develop conceptual design of interconnection facilities and costs.
  • Assist in conceptual design of wind farm and solar electrical collection systems (34.5kV), substations (34.5kV – transmission voltage 115kV – 230kV – 345kV), and project-owned transmission lines.
  • Provide assistance during project design and construction for interconnection-related issues
  • Interpret market rules as they apply to the interconnection study, construction, and operation of generation projects
  • Provide assistance to asset managers in developing and implementing bidding and risk management strategies
  • Participate in various industry groups dealing with interconnection and market issues.
  • Perform technical diligence for potential M&A projects
  • Perform complex Transmission delivery assessments to support Origination and business opportunities for RFPs.
  • Coordinate with consultants to prepare system models and perform reliability and economic studies.
  • Establish relationships with various technical experts among stakeholders, utilities, RTO/ISOs.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in transmission system planning, compliance, and operations including complex power flow, short circuit, and stability studies.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • BS or MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
  • WECC/CAISO region experience while working at the ISO or with the Utilities and advanced understanding of the WECC/CAISO interconnection and planning process.
  • Knowledge of FERC, NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections, including Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) a plus.
  • Experienced in the use of power flow software such as PSS/E, TARA, PowerWorld, PSLF, or PSCAD similar software package a plus.

Acre has partnered with a high-growth startup commercializing a novel decarbonization technology set to completely disrupt technological paradigms. They have performed excellently in fundraising and are backed by some of the most powerful and successful investment engines in the industrial decarbonization landscape. The success they've found in only a few years is attributed to the elite team of engineers, scientists and leaders they've been able to hire with much of their team coming from the most reputable businesses globally in the specialty chemicals and industrial gas industries.

 

 

Their success in funding has enabled them to rapidly scale their technology. Resultantly, they are nearing commercial scale with several projects at various stages of the process lifecycle and inherently are looking to grow their Project Engineering team by adding a Senior who can take complete ownership over several complex projects.

 

 

Based in New Jersey, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for

 

  • Owning the entire project lifecycle for multiple projects at once from cradle-to-grave meaning you will lead various internal engineering and external EPC vendors from first design discussions through construction and commissioning.

  • Owning project deliverables, conceiving engineering work orders and owning the timely execution of projects

  • Identifying, managing and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle

  • Provide technical support and leadership over a cross-functional team of process engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, controls engineers and structural engineers

 

 

To be effective, you'll need

 

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of project engineering experience, three of which should be in a lead position focused on cradle-to-grave plant execution.

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams comprised of internal engineering, and vendors.

  • Experience managing Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors is required.

  • Expertise in project management, risk management and construction management is required.

  • Ideally have experience developing plants incorporating one or more of the following technologies: Hydrogen (H2), Steam Methane Reformers (SMR), Autothermal Reformers (ATR), Blue Hydrogen, Ammonia (NH3) synthesis, sustainable aviation fuel, green Methanol (CH3OH), Direct Air Capture, Carbon Sequestration or CO2 utilization technologies.
