Tom attended Royal Holloway Unviersity and graduated with a BSc in Geography (Hons) in 2011. Tom then began work at the Energy Saving Trust. There Tom worked within the Technology Partnerships Team and worked across a variety of research and demonstration projects. Tom became Technical Project Manager after one year, with his main duties including managing UK Government and EU funded projects, trialing technologies such as heat pumps and fuel-cells.
In December 2013, Tom joined the Land Securities energy team. Beginning in an analyst role, Tom worked to analyse and interpret data for the Land Securities portfolio. In 2015 Tom moved to the role of Energy Reporting Analyst where he did the energy and carbon reporting. Tom eventually moved into the role of Energy Manager. He was given the opportunity of developing the company’s new energy and carbon targets as part of a refreshed sustainability strategy. Working with internal and external stakeholders he managed the process of setting the industry’s first ever “science-based” carbon target. Tom has now redirected his efforts into identifying and implementing energy reduction projects in the company’s Retail portfolio. Tom has successfully identified multiple energy reduction opportunities and has achieved company approval for many.
Outside of work, Tom has been completing a distance-learning MSc in Carbon and Energy Management at Herriot Watt University since January 2014. Tom is expected to complete his Masters later this year, with his dissertation researching the full life-cycle carbon emissions of office buildings.
