Are you an ambitious, tech-savvy ESG professional looking for a new challenge within the mining industry? Do you wish to support the corporate responsibility agenda of an organisation that channels significant investments into the communities it operates in?

Our client, an AIM-listed mining company, is one of the world's leading suppliers of responsibly sourced precious gemstones. Its assets included producing mines/ licenses in Zambia, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Madagascar, alongside a leading global luxury jewellery brand.

The company believes its dedication to preserving the environment, nurturing relationships with local communities and upholding human rights is fundamental to its continued commercial success. Via its corporate responsibility programme, significant investments have been channelled through to local communities it operates in, tackling unemployment and illegal mining through vocational training schemes.

The company is now seeking to appoint a Corporate Responsibility Manager to be based in either London or Johannesburg. Reporting to the Corporate Responsibility Director, you will partner with both Group functions and sites operational teams in driving forward the Company's ESG agenda. You will be leading and driving projects to help the company achieve IRMA and RJC standards, alongside collecting and managing ESG reporting data for the business, as well as supporting its operational sites in delivering its corporate responsibility requirements.

Responsibilities and opportunities of the role include:

  • Supporting the Corporate Responsibility Director with the management, implementation and delivery of the ESG strategy at the company's operating sites.

  • Driving specific projects, which will include achieving certification with IRMA Standard for the company's mining operations and ongoing RJC certification for its jewellery brand.

  • Collection and management of the annual ESG reporting data and metrics in accordance with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Sustainability Disclosure Guidelines.

  • Providing day-to-day support to the Corporate Responsibility Teams at the company's operating sites in Africa, with a clear focus on working with the Corporate Responsibility HODs (Heads of Departments), supporting them in the delivery of work according to established standards, continuous improvement, and mitigation of social & environmental risks.

  • Working with local HODs, put in place processes, procedures, and reporting to monitor, evaluate and drive forward localised projects to conclusion and to ensure their long-term viability.

You will bring:

  • Mining experience, preferably within Voluntary Sustainability Standards, consultancies driving ESG targets, or corporate businesses with a track record of progressive work in ESG.

  • Understanding of, and creative use of, digital solutions to drive the Company's Corporate Responsibility objectives.

  • The capability to work effectively and productively with other managers across a diverse cultural and dynamic operational environment. Ideally, you will have some exposure and understanding of African mining operations.

  • Willingness to travel as the role will include some travel to project sites, primarily in Zambia and Mozambique.

  • Strong background in project management, particularly with planning methods and coordinating programs.

This is a highly essential role in ensuring transparency of the company's ESG performance, pushing forward its corporate responsibility efforts via engaging with some of the most comprehensive standards within mining. If you are excited by this opportunity to support this industry leader in making a significant on-the-ground impact, then look no further.
