Greene King is passionate about delivering their purpose to 'pour happiness into lives'. As the country's leading pub retailer and brewer, they are making a difference to people, communities, and the environment and are equally committed to a clear ESG agenda and strategy.

With targets to meet and further impact to be made, Greene King is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Lead to join and pioneer their net-zero roadmap and implement their strategy across multiple environmental topics.

In this newly created role, you will also be:

  • Providing technical expertise to the ESG board, aiding the development of sub-targets and roadmaps across the function, divisions, and working groups. Through proactive collaboration, you encourage and drive success, positioning Greene King as a known ESG leader.

  • Representing Greene King externally, leading on sustainability matters at networking events and forums. You will also be engaging and managing relations with partners, including The Carbon Trust and Zero Carbon Forum.

  • Keeping up to speed with the Environmental Sustainability market, looking at emerging trends and horizon-scanning for improvement and innovation opportunities within Greene King's programme.

  • Collaborating with the communications teams to deliver content in line with the ESG board communications strategy whilst also overseeing the environment knowledge hub to develop information for key stakeholders.

You will report to the Head of ESG and Sustainability, and you will take a leading role within the team. Carbon reduction (scopes 1 & 2) will be a key focus for you, alongside energy efficiency, scope 3 supplier strategy, and water management.

To succeed in this role, you already have the following:

  • A drive to do well and to do the right thing. You are motivated and thrive in an environment with professionals from different disciplines, where you can build strong relationships both internally and externally.

  • Skills in creative communication on technical matters and 'breaking down' specialised and sometimes complex topics.

  • Experience in creating and implementing a carbon reduction roadmap for a large business. If you have done this in the food, drink, or agriculture sector, this is even better!

Greene King's offices are in Bury St. Edmunds and Burton upon Trent, whilst this opportunity provides flexibility and hybrid working opportunities.

If Greene King's values in environment, communities, and people resonate with you, and you are a technical sustainability professional, apply today. If you have any questions about the opportunity or to express interest but may not have brushed up your CV just yet, reach out to ruth.smith@acre.com.
