Leather Working Group (LWG) is a global non-profit, multi-stakeholder initiative committed to building a world where leather is sourced, produced, and used sustainably, protecting people and the planet.

LWG supports and encourages the use of responsibly made leather as a sustainable material by inspiring, educating, and challenging those that produce and use leather. Through collaboration, convening, and standard setting, LWG is collectively creating a transparent leather value chain that achieves positive impacts aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

You will join the LWG at a critical and exciting juncture in the organisation's evolution, fuelled by a significant increase in member base, stakeholder engagement, and the collective desire to minimise the negative impacts of global leather value chains. The newly created Senior Manager, Traceability role will be responsible for creating and managing a small team to develop and implement a Chain of Custody for leather, working with system partners, members, and other external stakeholders to create a 'one source of truth' for the responsible sourcing of leather.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the full leather value chain, including brands, leather manufacturers, civil society, and others, to promote industry-wide transparency and traceability.

  • Serve as the LWG subject matter expert on traceability, chain of custody, and supply chain transparency within the leather industry.

  • Support the development of traceability requirements within the LWG Audit Standards to incorporate relevant legal and regulatory requirements and meet stakeholders' expectations.

  • Ensure LWG stakeholders are kept informed about global traceability and supply chain-related legislation and regulations that impact the leather industry, overseeing the development of guidance and tools to support stakeholders to comply.

  • Manage the development of initiatives, tools, and resources that promote and enable improved traceability.

  • Represent LWG at industry events, conferences, and forums, as well as identify and participate in relevant workshops and discussions to educate and advocate for sustainable and ethical practices in the leather industry.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in the chain of custody and traceability standards, preferably within the leather industry or a related sector.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience managing people, budgets and complex large-scale projects.

  • Understanding of legislation and regulations relevant to traceability, ideally within the leather supply chain.

  • Ability to work in a flexible, yet fast-paced remote environment, able to meet deadlines and share progress regularly. Comfort with ambiguity and changing direction.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to be a driving force in transforming the leather industry into a more sustainable and responsible sector. If you are passionate about traceability and supply chain management and have the expertise to make a positive impact, please apply below.
