Established in 2019, the Green Finance Institute is an independent, commercially focused organisation, supported by HM Treasury, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the City of London Corporation. As the UK's principal forum for public and private sector collaboration in green finance, The Institute are uniquely placed to accelerate the domestic and global transition to a zero-carbon and climate-resilient economy through mobilising capital. The Institute convenes and leads coalitions, made up of networks of dynamic decision makers across financial services, policy, business, academia and civil society, to identify and unlock barriers to deploy capital at pace and scale towards impactful, real-economy outcomes.

What's in it for you:

  • You will play a key role in a small but fast growth team working across the Green Finance Institute's portfolio of coalitions, projects and taskforces.

  • You will work collaboratively with domestic and global stakeholders across government, industry, civil society and academia to deliver tangible interventions that will deploy capital towards sectors of the real economy, supporting the transition to net zero.

  • The Green Finance Institute is scaling its efforts to transform the financial system and the wider economy at pace. In the aftermath of the global pandemic, the need to channel investment towards a greener economy that will benefit business, society and the environment is a critical priority for governments and businesses alike.

What's the role?

  • The Institute is looking for someone to mobilise and lead the Institute's high-profile Decarbonisation of Transport coalition. To be successful you will need familiarity and credibility with the finance and transport sector.

  • Initially focusing on road transport in the UK, you will lead a broad-based coalition of market participants covering the entire automotive value chain.

  • In the first phase of the coalition (3-6 months) the coalition will identify barriers to flows of public and private finance to decarbonise the sector, and identify financial mechanisms and policy recommendations that can catalyse finance flows at scale.

  • In phases 2 & 3 (6m-2yrs), you will work with coalition partners to mobilise and bring to market the highest potential demonstrator projects.

  • This role offers the opportunity for you to collaborate with major financial institutions in designing new financial products and services that have the potential to decarbonise an entire sector, and create significant opportunities for economic transformation and job creation.

  • The Institute is looking for someone who is politically savvy and an accomplished leader who is comfortable with chairing meetings of a diverse group of senior stakeholders. In this role it is essential that you are delivery focussed and outcome driven in all that you do.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Alongside the CEO, influence the strategic direction for the coalition and be responsible for the success of the programme.

  • Initiate and develop relationships with public and private sector stakeholders to engage relevant participants into new coalitions and manage stakeholder relations with current coalition members.

  • Stay current on the topic of green finance topics and areas of focus, and contribute to supportive policy formation to accelerate the adoption of new products and services.

  • Coordinate with the marketing and communications function on newsworthy announcements and events.

  • Represent the Institute at relevant industry events.
