Senior Director of Sustainability Communications

Location: East Coast, USA

 

 

Acre is proud to partner with a global CPG business to find a Senior Director of Sustainability Communications. 

 

 

Sustainability plays a central role in shaping the company’s reputation both with internal stakeholders and the broader public. It also intersects with some of the most pressing policy issues impacting the business landscape. These topics present both communication challenges and opportunities that are essential to navigate thoughtfully. 

 

 

This role will help bring the company’s purpose-driven efforts to life through compelling storytelling. It will also act as a vital link between business leaders and colleagues to ensure consistent, aligned communication. 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with sustainability SMEs and other colleagues around the world to understand key risks and opportunities related to the business’s sustainability strategy. 

  • Create partnerships, campaigns, and other forms of external collaboration to support the execution and reach of the sustainability strategy and operations. 

  • Engage with external partners to promote the business’s sustainability and social impact initiatives. 

  • Work with the Public Affairs team to strengthen the company’s policy and advocacy work. 

  • Drive a deeper culture of sustainability and purpose-led business internally by working with the internal communications team and members of the broader business.  

 

 

External Communications & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Create the external communication strategy to broaden the reach and amplify the impact of the business’s sustainability strategy. 

  • Lead communications strategy for public engagements such as Climate Week, COP, and more.  

  • Develop the company’s stance and messaging on various sustainability topics domestically and internationally for consumers, sustainability-practitioners, financiers, politicians, and more.  

  • Oversee key materials, such as annual sustainability reports and documents for board meetings and executive engagements.  

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Sustainability or related field. 

  • 10+ years of corporate affairs and communications experience, ideally for a nationally or internationally-known company. 

  • 5+ years of sustainability-focused corporate communications. 

  • Demonstrated experience working with global organizations and non-profits, such as the United Nations. 

  • Strong understanding of social and environmental sustainability topics, including sustainability reporting. Relevant topics include manufacturing, human rights, packaging, and agriculture. 

  • Ability to direct and mentor team members, manage financial budgets, and communicate with executive leadership and board members. 

  • Experience working with and managing external communications and PR agencies.  

 

 

 

 

This role is based in a major city on the East Coast of the USA. The Senior Director will be expected to be in the office 4 days a week. Expected salary is between $215-240k USD.
