North America continues to raise the bar for offering the highest average sustainability salaries globally, according to the CR & Sustainability (CR&S) Salary Survey 2020.

The survey, conducted by Acre, Carnstone and Flag, showed that the continent offers a salary of around $140,000 for in-house roles and $125,000 for consultants.

More than double the usual number of respondents in North America (particularly the United States) have taken part in the 2020 survey which has noted an overall rise globally since the survey was last conducted in 2018.

Catherine Harris, Head of CR&S - Americas at Acre, said: “The increased participation from North America (especially the USA) has been a major - but not the sole - contributor to these changes. Thus, while average salaries in North America have seen the highest increase since the last survey, it’s worth highlighting that the UK isn’t that far behind. The average increase in Europe has been slightly lower which possibly reflects more general factors, such as lower economic and wage growth.”
