Are you a carbon specialist wishing to make a more direct impact on the world's energy transition journey? Are you confident in leveraging your technical skills to support global decarbonisation and improve transparency in biomass?

Acre is partnering with the Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) to hire a Carbon Project Manager. In this role, you will develop SBP's understanding of, and role in, the increasingly complex arena of carbon measurement, accounting, reporting and compliance along the value chain from the forest landscape to end use/storage. The main impact objective is to support SBP in defining its role in the various emerging carbon-related initiatives in the biomass value chain. You will report to the Technical Director and work closely with a passionate team of technical, data, assurance, and business development experts.

The Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) is a not-for-profit, multi-stakeholder, voluntary certification scheme designed for biomass used in industrial, large-scale energy production and beyond.

In this role, you will be:

  • Supporting the SBP in defining its role in the various emerging carbon-related initiatives in the biomass value chain, such as the measurement and management of "forest carbon" (upstream) and in BECCS/BECCUS (downstream). In close collaboration with SBP Standard Manager and Assurance Manager, the Carbon Project Manager will, therefore, propose SBP positioning, policy and procedures in these areas for agreement by the Board.

  • Overseeing the formation, day-to-day management and chairing of the, to be re-established, Forest Carbon Working Group

  • Defining and implementing the role of SBP and SBP-certified biomass in the "carbon cycle": coordinating and engaging with external parties such as the TNFD (forestry and alternative energy), SBTI (FLAG), the EU, the GHG protocols, Gold Standard, Verra, Universities and others as relevant.

  • Defining project scope, goals, and deliverables in consultation with SBP stakeholders

  • Developing detailed project plans, including timelines, resource requirements, and budgets

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, running, and closing carbon-related projects, ensuring that they deliver the expected outcomes, are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

You'll have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Ecological Research, Environmental Science, etc.)

  • 5+ years of professional work experience in an international role

  • Track record experience in a project management role

  • A clear understanding and work experience in managing projects which relate to forest carbon and recognising the complexity of interconnected ecosystems and ecological resilience relevant to forest carbon accounting is highly valued

  • Experience in carbon/GHG assessments and complexities around sustainability issues, including ecological connectivity, is highly valued

  • An understanding of supply chains in land-based sectors, especially forestry, agriculture, woody and agricultural biomass and renewable energy is a plus

This is a remote full-time opportunity. The team is based in Europe around the CET time zone. There will be occasional travel to meetings with the team in Europe, and you should be based at a reasonable location for that.

If you are excited about the prospect of supporting SBP in delivering on its purpose to expand the contribution of good biomass to the global bioeconomy, apply here or contact Dan Bond at dan.bond@acre.com with any questions.
