Do you have the drive to lead the ESG strategy for a multinational organisation whose work includes some of the UK's most prominent buildings?

Based in North Yorkshire, Severfield plc is the largest structural steel contractor in the UK and amongst the biggest in Europe. They are at the vanguard of creating iconic buildings and infrastructure.

Their projects range from education to transport, and they are responsible for some of the UK's most impressive buildings, including The Shard and the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Severfield plc is looking to appoint their first Group Head of ESG to lead their sustainability strategy, working closely with all divisions and various stakeholders across the Group.

This will be both a strategic and hands-on position, working closely with Severfield's customers to ensure the supply chain is aligned with its sustainability commitments.

As Group Head of ESG, you will:

  • Deliver the overall sustainability / ESG strategic plan

  • Be an ambassador of change, driving purpose-led messaging and ensuring it is embedded across all functions and communications channels

  • Maintain accreditations and external bodies reporting such as BES6001, CDP, carbon audits, ESOS and SBTi

  • Develop and lead inspiring initiatives that advance the Groups social impact ambitions

  • Maintain awareness of global sustainability / ESG trends and tools, metrics and KPIs and share updates and implications with the broader Sustainability Committee

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Degree-level education in a relevant subject

  • Strong knowledge of the GHG Protocol, Net Zero Carbon, Science-Based Targets, Race to Zero, Carbon disclosure project, TCFD including scenario analysis, ESOS, SECR, social value and biodiversity

  • Ability to inspire and educate non-ESG experts and engage them to support the strategy, break down complex data and communicate in a language which will resonate

  • Experience leading ESG strategy in either steel, construction, energy, or a similar sector
