The GSMA is a membership body that acts on behalf of the mobile industry to maximise its impact on economies and societies through global initiatives. By doing so, it helps position the mobile industry as a critical partner for digital transformation and attracts the right relationships with international organisations, public and private partners around the world.

The global GSMA Climate Action Taskforce has more than 50 members, including all the major telecommunications companies. The membership organisation played a leading role in developing the ICT sector roadmap to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Many of its members are pioneers in driving carbon reduction both within the industry and enabling other industries to follow suit, through smart connected technologies.

This Senior Manager for Climate role will form part of the company's External Affairs Team, in the Advocacy Department. Key responsibilities:

  • Develop GSMA content (industry position, research, case studies, etc) on industry best practice in climate action

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends seen in the impacts of climate change in the industry

  • Support the delivery of a range of climate action projects and campaigns to support GSMA members to achieve science-based and net zero targets, working closely with mobile operators and GSMA's partners globally

  • Work with regional offices to coordinate climate activities aligned with our global priorities

  • Work with other GSMA teams, for example Mobile for Development, GSMA Intelligence, Technology, where there are common climate objectives

The successful applicant will:

  • Possess a good knowledge of climate change issues and private sector's response, with previous relevant professional experience

  • Ideally have knowledge or experience in the following areas: climate accounting and disclosure, GHG Protocol, energy efficiency, renewable energy, supplier engagement, digital connectivity enabling decarbonisation, circular economy, climate risk and opportunities

  • Be able to formulate a strategic approach across the industry and be able to mobilise resources and consensus to implement projects and campaigns

  • Strong writing and analytical skills, combined with excellent communications skills and stakeholder management, as well as being an excellent team player

  • Proven ability for multi-tasking, agility to meet deadlines and respond to variety of requests, resourcefulness, attention to details and client orientation
