MM Flowers is a dynamic fast-growing business supplying fresh-cut flowers and bouquets to consumers through retail and digital channels across UK and Europe.

The business has doubled in size over the last three years and has impressive expansion plans to grow further in the next few years. Being part of a sector with complex global supply chains and social sustainability issues, MM Flowers is keen to be at the forefront of sustainability and has created a new strategic role of Social Sustainability Lead. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and deliver a human rights and social impact strategy.

You will drive the social sustainability agenda for MM Flowers as well as working to support/advise across shareholder farms within the supply chain.

In this role, you will report to the ESG Director and be responsible for driving change throughout the business across key issues related to ethical trade and social impact. It is an exciting new opportunity to be part of the team at a strategic level, to influence change, and to create an impact in the sector.

You will be:

  • Defining the social strategy and delivering on the sustainability goals of MM Flowers for its UK and European operations as well as its global value chain

  • The organisation-wide expert and point of contact for all matters relating to human rights and the social impact agenda

  • Developing MM Flowers policies across social issues such as Human Rights Due Diligence, Modern Slavery, Gender and Living Wage

  • Working closely with the environmental sustainability lead as well as the Engagement and Reporting team to ensure a high level of reporting across social sustainability projects

  • Further developing social due diligence to improve worker voice communications with MM Flowers and key strategic growers

This is a high impact role with the opportunity to influence the lives of 43,000 workers across the value chain. We are looking for a motivated and assured professional with experience in developing successful, complex, and international social sustainability strategies.

Key Experience:

  • Experience in designing, developing and implementing strategies to raise awareness and increase capability to deliver our human rights commitments

  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of the factors impacting social sustainability and human rights, including the UN SDGs, the growing regulatory landscape for Human Rights Due Diligence, Modern Slavery, Gender and Living Wage

  • Experience of working internationally ideally within fresh produce or relevant fresh food manufacturing sector

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels

  • Demonstrable understanding of social audits, reporting and data management e.g. SEDEX Platform

  • Credibility and highly driven by building meaningful, sustainable relationships with colleagues and partners across various geographies
