Acre is thrilled to partner with a leading global mid-market private equity firm, with strong ambitions pertaining to driving ESG innovation in this space.

Sustainability is key to adding value to the investment team, including identifying and assessing ESG risks and opportunities throughout the investment lifecycle.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you will primarily support and drive ESG due diligence activities, and advance the sustainability strategies and initiatives at portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability & ESG Due Diligence

  • Working with third-party advisors, scope out, identify and interpret material ESG risks and opportunities for potential targets as part of due diligence activities, prior to investment, for the Investment Committee.

  • Drive continuous improvement across ESG Due Diligence, identifying opportunities to strengthen our approach.

  • Periodically review third-party due diligence advisor relationships.

Portfolio Companies

  • Work closely, as an expert advisor and a strategic resource, with portfolio companies to develop, advance and strengthen their approaches to Sustainability & ESG, on topics including:

    • Robust governance & policy on sustainability

    • Overall sustainability strategy development and materiality assessments

    • Developing goals, KPIs and initiatives on topics such as climate change, DEI&B, responsible AI, etc.

    • Supporting readiness for emerging regulations such as EU CSRD, Corporate Due Diligence regulations, EU Pay Transparency Directive, California and US SEC Climate Change and Human Capital Management regulations, etc.

    • Supporting deployment of ESG Performance Management solutions and improving robustness of ESG data

  • Ultimately work with management teams and ESG leaders at portfolio companies to help align objectives on ESG, and prioritize key areas of focus in line with wider commercial objectives.

Firm-level Activities

  • As required, support internal Sustainability & ESG initiatives, such as internal capacity building, Deal Team and Operating Team engagement.

Key Experience and Skills

Experience

The ideal candidate will meet these criteria:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and preferably a Master's degree, in a related field to ESG and sustainability.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working directly in the Sustainability & ESG field, preferably in a consultancy capacity or in-house within a Sustainability team or department;

  • Proven ability in developing and driving impactful sustainability strategies, with a 'nose-for-value' and good commercial acumen;

  • Data-driven, with strong technical and analytical skills, and demonstrated experience analysing ESG data;

  • Good familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks, such as ISSB, GRI, UN PRI, CDP, TCFD, EcoVadis, etc.; and

  • Good familiarity with ESG regulation in the US and EU (e.g. SEC, EU CSRD, etc.).

Skills

  • Team player with good collaboration skills working with a wide range of stakeholders internally at the Firm and with our portfolio companies;

  • Strong communication and presentation-writing skills; and

  • Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

The role will require relatively frequent travel between their global offices and to the locations of their portfolio companies in North America and Europe. The role will be based in San Francisco.
