Acre is partnering with an energy efficiency and smart energy solutions company, based in Amsterdam, for the recruitment of a Senior Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team in Europe.

About the Organisation

The company is solely dedicated to Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for utility-scale solar projects—making it a true specialist in large-scale solar energy storage. Founded by three respected experts in the industry, each with a track record of building out ESS departments at top-tier energy storage manufacturers, the team brings deep technical know-how and proven leadership. As a startup, the company is backed by strong funding and is experiencing rapid growth, making it financially robust and well-positioned to lead the next wave of innovation in renewable energy infrastructure.

Role Overview

As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be working on novel mechanical designs for their utility-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems (ESS). You will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and components, collaborating with design, analysis, manufacturing, and program teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of high-voltage Energy Storage Systems (ESS) from concept through final design, testing, and production.

  • Create 3D CAD models for equipment structures and internal layouts using software like SolidWorks; conduct FEA analyses to ensure compliance with mechanical, seismic, and shipping standards.

  • Perform thermal simulations and heat transfer analyses to support battery system thermal management.

  • Define and manage requirements for subsystems and individual components.

  • Work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including electrical, controls, electronics, logistics, and manufacturing, as well as external suppliers and contract manufacturers.

  • Contribute to a fast-paced culture of rapid prototyping and testing.

  • Encourage teamwork, adaptability, and a hands-on approach—no task is too large or too small.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical product design

  • Strong foundation in mechanical and thermal engineering principles

  • Proficient with commercial CAD and PLM tools; experience with FEA and standard CAE methods

  • Background in designing and manufacturing products at medium to high production volumes

  • Practical experience in prototyping, validation, and testing

  • Deep interest in renewable energy, sustainability, and leveraging technology for environmental impact

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

  • Must be eligible to work in Europe
