Executive Director

VPI

This role is open to applicants in all regions, and is a remote role, with 25-35% travel expected


The Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) is a unique, multi-stakeholder partnership that brings together governments, companies in the extractives, energy, and natural resource sectors, and non-governmental organizations to advance human rights and responsible security practices in complex environments.

As VPI continues to expand its global influence, it is seeking a visionary Executive Director to guide the organization into its next phase of growth, collaboration, and impact.

 

Responsibilities
  • Shaping and implementing a long-term strategy that amplifies VPI’s global reach and impact on human rights and responsible business conduct.
  • Building and nurturing strong, trust-based relationships with governments, companies, NGOs, and international organizations while representing VPI in influential global discussions.
  • Overseeing the Secretariat and ensuring effective governance, financial integrity, and the seamless delivery of impactful programs.
  • Driving growth by securing new funding, developing strategic partnerships, and expanding membership to strengthen VPI’s sustainability and influence.
  • Leading and empowering a diverse international team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and a shared sense of purpose.

 

Profile
  • Proven senior leadership experience across sectors including business, government, and civil society, with a record of advancing human rights and responsible business conduct.
  • Skilled in managing complex multi-stakeholder relationships and building consensus among diverse partners.
  • Strong understanding of human rights, corporate responsibility, and operations in high-risk or resource-rich environments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Experienced leader who motivates teams and cultivates a positive, mission-driven work culture.

 

Location: Flexible, depending on the selected candidate’s circumstances.
Remuneration: Competitive and commensurate with experience, reflecting the global scope of the role.
