The Opportunity
Acre is delighted to be supporting a rapidly growing UK services business operating across multiple established brands, supporting public and private sector clients, including local authorities, housing associations, and councils. Over the past five years, the Group has grown significantly through acquisition.
This business is now appointing a Sustainability & Bid Manager to sit at the heart of the business, embedding ESG compliance and social value across the Group while strengthening their bid performance in highly competitive tenders.
This is a senior, visible role with genuine autonomy. You will shape how Sustainability is defined, evidenced, and articulated across the organisation, while acting as the in-house expert supporting bids where sustainability and social value are critical to success.
The Role
You will
- Own and embed the Group’s Sustainability approach across all operating companies
- Ensure ESG compliance, governance, and audit-readiness at Group level
- Act as the ESG and social value subject matter expert for bids and tenders
- Support the bid team during peak periods (typically 1–2 bids per month)
- Develop compelling Sustainability and social value narratives that win work
- Work closely with senior leaders, compliance, and bid stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
ESG & Sustainability Leadership
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of ESG policies across the Group
- Support ESG audits and compliance activities across multiple business units
- Track, monitor, and evidence ESG and social value commitments
- Act as an internal advisor on ESG regulation, frameworks, and best practices
- Contribute to the evolution of sustainability strategy as the Group continues to grow
Bid & Tender Support
- Lead ESG and social value responses for major tenders
- Translate ESG policy into clear, compelling bid content aligned to scoring frameworks
- Collaborate with bid managers to improve quality, consistency, and win rates
- Support bid resourcing during peak periods without owning day-to-day bid management
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work across Operations, HR, Procurement, and Compliance to gather data and insight
- Influence senior stakeholders without direct reporting lines
- Act as a trusted partner to the Bid Director and Compliance leadership
What We’re Looking For
You will ideally have
- ESG, sustainability, or social value roles
- Strong writing capability, ideally within bids, tenders, or regulated environments
- An understanding of public sector procurement and ESG scoring criteria
- Experience working with ESG frameworks and standards (e.g. ISO 14001, UN SDGs, GRI)
- Confidence operating at the senior stakeholder level
- Experience supporting bids for local authorities, housing associations, or infrastructure clients
