The Opportunity
Acre is delighted to be partnering with a nation wide real estate client in their search for a Director of Asset Performance & Decarbonization to build and lead their U.S. real estate practice focused on improving building performance, reducing operational carbon, and enhancing asset value across diverse real estate portfolios. This role combines strategic leadership, business development, and technical delivery, ideal for a seller/doer who can shape their service offerings, deepen client relationships, and deliver high-quality advisory and implementation projects.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping clients align their assets with net zero pathways, ESG commitments, and market expectations for high-performing, resilient buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the U.S. strategy for asset performance and decarbonization.
- Develop service offerings spanning energy optimization, carbon reduction, and portfolio performance improvement, with a focus on driving measurable financial value for our clients.
- Partner with senior leadership to integrate asset performance into the consultancy’s broader offerings.
- Provide leadership in client development efforts across owners, developers, occupiers and investors.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities in energy performance, carbon strategy, and portfolio resilience.
- Support proposal development, pricing strategies, and strategic partnerships.
Technical Delivery & Advisory
- Oversee delivery of projects related to decarbonization roadmaps, energy benchmarking, and performance improvement.
- Guide clients in implementing cost-effective efficiency measures, capex planning, renewable integration, and data-driven performance management.
- Collaborate with engineering, certification, and ESG teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Team & Practice Growth
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of technical and advisory professionals.
- Develop standardized tools, methodologies, and reporting frameworks.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Market & Thought Leadership
- Represent the firm in industry forums, conferences, and working groups focused on decarbonization and sustainable real estate.
- Track regulatory and market trends influencing carbon reduction and energy performance standards.
- Contribute to publications, insights, and thought leadership on the business case for decarbonization.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in building performance, energy management, or sustainability consulting, ideally with a focus on real estate portfolios.
- Proven track record of delivering decarbonization, energy optimization, and ESG-driven asset performance projects with measurable financial outcomes.
- Strong understanding of building systems, energy modeling, and carbon accounting principles.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex client engagements.
- Demonstrated business development experience and client relationship management skills.
- Deep knowledge of technology and a desire to embed tools into the delivery process designed to increase accuracy and quality of outcomes.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities; comfortable engaging at both technical and executive levels.
Preferred Credentials
- Professional Engineer (PE), CEM, LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar certification.
- Experience with energy modeling software, carbon assessment tools, and benchmarking platforms.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as GRESB, ENERGY STAR, and net-zero carbon standards.
