Financial/Project Controller

APF Energy B.V. is a Dutch producer of green gas (biomethane), focused on the development, construction, and operation of green gas installations. The company is part of a growing group of entities active in the sustainable energy transition. From its office in Harderwijk, APF Energy works with a lean and dedicated senior management team and maintains close relationships with financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and operational partners across the Netherlands.

 

Position Summary

 

We are looking for an experienced and accurate Financial & Project Controller to form the financial backbone of our growing group. In this combined role, you will be responsible for both the financial controlling of the entities and the project controlling of our investment and construction projects.

You will safeguard the quality of the financial administration, drive the monthly close, and deliver the management information on which the leadership team bases its decisions.

The role suits someone who works in a structured and independent manner, has an eye for both detail and the bigger picture, and feels at home in a dynamic multi-entity environment in which the organisation is rapidly professionalising. You will work closely with the CFO, the external accountant, and the operational team.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Financial Controlling & Accounting

 

  • Overseeing and performing the bookkeeping and ensuring the accuracy of the financial administration of the various entities
  • Directing and executing the monthly close cycle, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals
  • Preparing the periodic financial reports (monthly and quarterly) with analysis of variances
  • Preparing the annual accounts, both stand-alone and consolidated, in coordination with the external accountant
  • Maintaining contact with accountants and auditors and coordinating the audit process
  • Safeguarding and further developing internal control, processes, and administrative procedures

 

Budgeting & Project Controlling

 

  • Preparing and monitoring budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the management team
  • Providing project controlling of investment and construction projects: monitoring budget, costs, progress, and cash flow
  • Setting up and maintaining project administrations and reporting on project KPIs
  • Analysing budget versus actual and flagging under- and overruns with substantiatedn explanation
  • Providing financial input and analyses for investment decisions and business cases

 

Treasury & Other Duties

 

  • Supporting cash management, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
  • Contributing to the financial integration of acquired entities (administration and systems)
  • Identifying improvement opportunities in the financial processes and (BI) reporting
  • Any other tasks within the financial domain that require support

 

Candidate Profile

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Completed higher professional (HBO) or university (WO) degree in a financial or business economics field (e.g. Accountancy, Business Economics, Finance & Control)
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a (financial) controller, project controller, or in a comparable role
  • Experience with monthly closes, annual accounts, and consolidation
  • Experience in a multi-entity or holding structure and with project controlling is a strong advantage
  • Affinity with the energy, infrastructure, or project sector is a plus

 

Skills & Competencies

 

  • Excellent command of Dutch; good working knowledge of English
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with Exact Online and BI software
  • Strong analytical ability, accurate and numerically skilled
  • Independent, structured, and able to safeguard deadlines
  • Good communication skills to convey financial information clearly
  • Discreet and trustworthy in handling confidential information
  • Proactive and solution-oriented, with a hands-on mentality
