The Social Board
For many company boards, tackling the unmet needs of society is an aspiration that can be delegated to Corporate Social Responsibility teams. They see government as primarily responsible for addressing challenges such as climate change and mental illness, leaving boards to focus on shareholder value. This paper argues otherwise; the relationship between business and society has reached a point where the voice of society needs to be introduced explicitly as a stakeholder in the boardroom.
Sustainability Strategy Recruitment | Sustainability Reporting Recruitment Overview
Acre has operated in the field of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Recruitment for over 16 years.
Over this period, we have seen the job function evolve dramatically, moving from being primarily a philanthropic and marketing-led discipline, to one which is integrated commercially into the heart of businesses and used as a lever to generate revenue, mitigate risk and create efficiencies. We have seen the need for Sustainability Strategy & Reporting recruitment professionals grow alongside this, building an extensive database of experienced professionals who focus specifically on reporting.
What Skills and Competencies are required?
We have seen the competencies required for corporate social responsibility professionals develop over time. The modern senior sustainability practitioner is likely to be a change manager, a visionary thinker and a highly inclusive operator. They tend to have capabilities to plan and develop strategy and to measure and report impact. Acre are working in partnership with our in house leadership development tool, Acre Frameworks, to develop a useful competency frameworks to support practitioners in their careers.
Acre surveys the corporate social responsibility and sustainability marketplace every two years in its CR/S Salary Survey which has helped to unravel its evolution for the past 10 years. This includes salary data but much more.
Who do we we work with?
We work with clients across all industry sectors, with a strong focus on partnering with companies with complex supply chains (for instance retailers and consumer goods companies) and clients with particular risks (for instance manufacturing and extractives). We also undertake a good deal of work with the financial industry particularly in relation to responsible investment and ESG projects.
Issues of sustainability span international borders and we operate globally supporting our clients in countries in which they manufacture (for instance Bangladesh, Turkey and China) as well as at corporate HQs often in Europe, North America and Asia. We have built up unrivalled access to candidates around the globe.
We work on permanent recruitment assignments as well as contract and interim assignments. We can also support our clients with consultancy assignments by introducing you to a group of best-in-class sustainability interim consultants and freelancers.
