Amfori is the leading global business association for open and sustainable trade. They bring together over 2,400 retailers, importers, brands and associations from more than 40 countries. Their membership contains organisations of all sizes and all sectors with a combined turnover of more than one trillion euros.

Acre’s search centred around identifying a Capacity Building Manager to be based in Brussels, who could lead the development, implementation and review of capacity building programmes for the former Foreign Trade Association and its large membership base.

Reporting into the Managing Director, this individual would bring clarity and synergy across social work streams and elevate the organisations position as a thought-leader and impartial adviser regarding best-practise ethical trade across its members. This was a tough brief; we were looking for someone with proven leadership skills and multiple languages that could understand its private-sector members challenges but bring together stakeholders from various parts of the value chain.

The successful candidate had a unique background; starting off in the private sector building and running a textile business, then became a Director in an NGO in Asia, working on capacity building projects and had recently finished a Sustainability Master’s degree in the UK. Their background was demonstrative of someone with a strong understanding of the link between the private sector and non-profits, that had direct exposure and experience across an industry with notorious risks around human and labour rights.

The candidate made significant impact with capacity building within the organisation, which led to two promotions, significant growth of the membership base as a direct result of their efforts, ultimately resulting in their rise to VP of Services.
