Position Summary:

Eden is seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Lead to join their team. This pivotal role focuses on identifying and securing new revenue streams through carbon and climate finance opportunities, both market and non-market mechanisms, and philanthropic finance. As an essential member of their Development and Marketing Team, you will work across all teams within the organization. Your efforts will increase financial flows to Eden's portfolio of landscape restoration projects, including those funded through carbon finance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Research, Customer Feedback, + Analysis:

    • Conduct in-depth research to identify new market opportunities and understand trends in climate finance, carbon finance, nature-based solutions, and natural capital investment.

    • Analyze competitors and disseminate information to teams and leadership.

    • Regularly report on trends, feedback, and patterns to senior leadership.

  • Client Acquisition + Relationship Management:

    • Identify potential clients for landscape restoration projects and develop strategies to attract them.

    • Negotiate agreement terms, create term sheets, and structure deals.

    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing clients.

  • Strategic Planning + Collaborative Implementation:

    • Assist in developing and executing comprehensive business development strategies.

    • Establish a reproducible model aligned with Eden's mission and values.

    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure strategy feasibility and effective implementation.

  • Networking + Representation:

    • Build a strong network of industry leaders and other contacts.

    • Represent Eden at sustainability and industry events, conferences, and networking events.

  • Proposal Development + Negotiation:

    • Serve as the focal point for project opportunity development.

    • Collaborate with Technical and International Programs teams to develop compelling proposals and pitches.

  • Performance Monitoring + Reporting:

    • Track and analyze business development initiatives' performance.

    • Regularly report progress to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in environment, climate, international development, or business administration.

  • Minimum of five years in business development or client-facing account management, focusing on environmental assets.

  • Experience in climate finance or the nonprofit sector, with a track record in securing large climate project investments and donations.

  • Advanced knowledge of climate finance, carbon markets, and natural capital investments.

  • Understanding of CSR, SDG, and ESG initiatives, net-zero commitments, and corporate climate commitments.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and social media platforms; experience with CRM platforms like Salesforce is preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in diverse and sometimes off-grid locations.

Work Environment + Physical Requirements:

  • Commitment to working in a global asynchronous team with atypical hours.

  • Travel up to 30% of the time, including to areas that are considered off-grid.

  • Ability to navigate rugged terrain and perform physical tasks as needed.

  • Legal authorization to live and work in the country of residence.
