Corporate Governance and Stewardship Analyst

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced corporate governance professional to join their ESG team (in Europe or London).

You will play a key role in defining and implementing the stewardship strategy, which is a central pillar of the investment strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing investment teams with insightful and expert advice on corporate governance evaluation and best practices

  • Coordinating and taking part in bilateral and/or collaborative engagements with companies on corporate governance issues

  • Overseeing the exercise of proxy voting rights and, when necessary, helping investment teams reach a consensus on specific resolutions

  • Leading the relationship with external providers on corporate governance data and proxy voting, including on-going monitoring and periodic reviews

  • Helping to enhance our firm-wide approach to active ownership, including by issuing policies, procedures and guidelines on corporate engagement and proxy voting

  • Contributing to internal and external reporting on active ownership activities

  • Attending relevant conferences, and joining industry associations and working groups

  • Implement corporate governance and voting policy across different markets in line with their investment footprint

  • Analyse shareholder resolutions

  • Conduct engagement with companies, including meetings with senior company representatives

  • Contribute to coordinating the engagement governance and escalation process

  • Identify extra-financial factors (ESG) that are material to short-, medium- and long-term investment outcomes for engagement across sectors, focusing more particularly on governance

  • Contribute to distinctive thematic research on corporate governance and ESG issues

  • Present voting policy and updates as well as engagement research results to PMs and Analysts, as well as to relevant committees and clients

  • Participate in collaborative and industry discussions (CA100+, industry associations) and monitoring corporate governance developments (Sustainable Corporate Governance EU initiative)

Key experience:

  • Experience of corporate governance analysis and proxy voting (ideally within asset management)

  • Communication skills to liaise with and influence investment colleagues

  • Ability to build a constructive dialogue and forge long-term relationships with senior executives, board members and investment professionals

  • Working knowledge of corporate governance and stewardship codes in different jurisdictions

  • Demonstrable interest in wider responsible investment and ESG issues

  • Ideally experience of engagement with company representatives

  • Excellent communications skills - written and verbal

  • Language skills: Proficient in French and English would be desirable
