In support of this, the Life Cycle Assessment and Transparency Analyst delivers analysis of the environmental impacts of Owens Corning products over their life cycle and, with this deep understanding, initiates actions or recommendations to reduce this impact or bring value to our businesses. The role provides influential leadership and support to many organizations throughout the company. You will be accountable for understanding various manufacturing processes and how they impact our environmental performance as well as product sustainability efforts. This includes working with the business units and plants on developing accurate accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) related strategies, as well as product level transparency, to meet the company's environmental and sustainability goals. You will develop the capabilities and competencies to be viewed as a subject matter expert for analytically driven sustainability performance. This includes developing an active outside-in perspective on what is strategically important for the organization.

In this position, you will be reporting to the Director, Corporate Sustainability and dotted line reporting to EU business sustainability leader.

Responsibilities:

Perform Life Cycle Assessments & Develop Product Footprint Claims (30% of responsibility)

  • Use life cycle thinking methods, including performing product life cycle assessments (LCAs), to develop an understanding of the impacts of Owens Corning products and processes, extending to use of products by external customers.

  • Development of externally published Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and other instruments of conveyance. Understands requirements of international standards (ISO) and certifications bodies.

  • Work across three Owens Corning businesses to demonstrate the environmental benefits of their products to internal/external audiences and enable growth initiatives.

  • Develop LCA-related product sustainability claims and drive projects through execution.

  • Interact with customers and support their requests for product footprint information.

Data Analysis and Guidance Claims (30% of responsibility)

  • Identify and assist in research and evaluation of potential sustainability efforts for feasibility and impact against corporate goals.

  • Gather, compile, analyze, prepare, and summarize data for complex sustainability and environmental projects.

  • Formulate and conduct studies to define performance plans for short and long-term goals.

  • Provide decision support by data modeling, including financial aspects through life cycle costing.

  • Provide insightful competitive analysis and visualization that drives decision making.

  • Distill complex data into actionable insights to inform all stages of product design.

  • Exercise judgment to determine appropriate course of action and prepare recommendations based on sound data analysis. Provide risk analysis for contingency planning.

  • Engage in roadmap creation and drive the implementation of product and process sustainability strategy and initiatives, in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

Product Transparency (25% of responsibility)

  • Know the viewpoints of thought leaders and influencers in the industry and spot trends and leading edge thinking prior to becoming mainstream.

  • Provide insight and support to Owens Corning businesses regarding green/sustainable product attributes and standards, as well as the requirements of green building rating systems and standards.

  • Complete competitive intelligence monitoring on green product attributes and market trends, particularly environmental science and tech research and advancement or changes by competitors.

  • Monitor the various green building programs, associated green product criteria and standards, their requirements and testing protocols while ensuring appropriate implementation.

  • Understand brand guidelines and marketing communications standards (ie Federal Trade Commission's guide to Green Marketing FTC260) for all certifications and green building program messaging and communications while being able to communicate expectations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support the process and relationships to maintain and extend 3rd party certifications for products, HPDs, and Declare labels, while continuously evaluate new programs to achieve business value

  • Provide guidance on company and industry positions regarding engagement with various product transparency and public disclosure programs

  • Understand global regulations and emerging expectations across ESG while understanding the potential impact those expectations and requirements may have on the company's products as well as our customers products.

Communication, Engagement, and Education (15% of responsibility)

  • Attend seminars, conferences, and working groups related to sustainability & enhance Owens Corning's brand value. Collaborate to move forward the profession and execution of life cycle assessment.

  • Monitor product sustainability trends and market expectations while providing input into the corporate sustainability strategy

  • Collaborate with team members around the world to define and articulate the organization's vision

  • Promote a team environment and lead and drive cross functional team projects to successful completion.

  • Support customers with sustainability presentations and interaction regarding our programs and supporting their needs

  • Engage in the development and execution of sustainability training and education for our employees, customers and suppliers

  • Participate in continuous education on global emerging trends

  • Represent Owens Corning in industry-related working groups and on standard-setting bodies

Job Requirements:

  1. 3-5 years of demonstrated experience of broadening assignments and experience, performed LCA studies is preferred.

  2. Bachelor's degree (or higher) in environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental management, sustainability, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field that supports this position.

  3. Familiarity with a wide range of data sources relevant for creating life cycle models is a plus.

  4. Capable of identifying key features of complex processes.

  5. Strong computer skills relevant for data manipulation and analysis. Demonstrated skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  6. Experience with SimaPro, GaBi or other LCA software is preferred.

  7. Strong analytical skills.

  8. Experience in construction association or Glassfiber association LCA working Group is a plus

  9. Experience in multi-national, manufacturing corporations in a corporate setting desirable.
