Future-Fit Foundation is seeking an exceptional candidate with a passion for changing the status quo to join their board of trustees. This is an outstanding opportunity to bring your oversight and communication skills to a dynamic, growing and entrepreneurial organisation that is disrupting the way companies and investors approach sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals - for the long-term benefit of all.

Future-Fit Foundation is the UK-based non-profit developer, promoter and steward of Future-Fit Benchmarks. Their vision is a Future-Fit Society - one which protects the possibility that humans and other life will flourish on Earth forever, by being environmentally restorative, socially just and economically inclusive. Given where we are today, this vision can only be realised through a rapid and radical shift in the way our global economy works.

You can find out more at our website: www.futurefitbusiness.org.

Core activities

  • Practical tools and frameworks: eveloping useful and usable tools that can help companies – and those who invest in them – to measure, manage and report on their true impact on the planet and society. (See LD Pension’s) Pioneer Progress Report
  • Analysis and research: drawing together best-in-class thinking across social and environmental issues, seeking to present it in ways that offer clarity and guidance to companies and investors.
  • Business collaborations: engaging with companies to catalyse change and facilitate adoption of the Business Benchmark. (See Tourism Holdings Ltd's Integrated Report)
  • Investor engagement: working with investors to accelerate usage of the Business Benchmark to help quantify and manage systemic risks within portfolios. (See Hermes Investment Management’s Quarterly Impact Report)
  • Partnerships: enabling others to develop products and services that seek to accelerate awareness and the pursuit of future-fitness.
  • Communication: openly sharing tools and information and stimulating dialogue on the need to rethink how we value the impact of business across the socio-economic system. (See our Crash Course video series).

This role

The role will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Member of the board of trustees with collective oversight of all corporate and charity governance requirements.

  • Helping to ensure the long-term success of the organisation through the delivery of its mission, with a specific focus on helping the executive team with the design and delivery of all aspects of their communications.

  • Act as a contact point for members of the Future-Fit communications and ecosystems teams to reach out to for advice, help and contacts.

  • Promotion of the Future-Fit methodology throughout your personal networks, where appropriate.

Note that, whilst we recognise the two elements cannot be completely separated, we are particularly looking for guidance on the execution of our communications (i.e. the how and the where) rather than creation of our content (i.e. the why and the what).

Required experience

The individual must possess the following competencies and character:

  • Substantial experience of communications / PR / marketing.

  • Ability to effectively guide the communications needs of a small and growing organisation with global ambitions and an increasingly relevant story to tell.

  • Demonstrable interest in and passion for driving positive global systemic change in relation to truly sustainable corporate business models and investment management.

  • Strong network of influential potential allies that, where appropriate, will be leveraged to further the aims of the organisation.

  • Sufficient time capacity to fully commit to the role - at least 1hr/month with team members and quarterly board meetings.
