Gridworks Development Partners LLP was established in 2019 as a dedicated platform for development and investment in Africa’s electricity networks. Sustainable development is at the heart of the firm’s purpose; it develops and invests in critical power infrastructure that will solve a substantial bottleneck to power availability, and therefore unlock economic and social development.

    Gridworks’ specifically targets three of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals:
    7, 8 & 13.

The development impact that can be achieved from successful improvements in transmission, distribution and off-grid is potentially vast. Improved utility capacity and performance can increase the quantity and quality of power available to users and reduce the tariff needed to sustain the network. It can also cut injuries and fatalities of users on the network, reduce carbon emissions and encourage other private sector investors and lenders to fund further critical infrastructure.

An incredible opportunity has arisen at Gridworks; the business is looking to appoint an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) & Impact Lead in a newly created position, based out of its London office.

Gridworks supports the effective development of the energy system across Africa. In pursuit of this objective, Gridworks has established a strategy and methodology with which to approach and measure impact.

As the portfolio of investments expands, so too will the remit of the ESG & Impact Lead. It is possible to grow with the growth and expansion of Gridworks into a Director level role with scope to build an ESG & impact team as fitting for the business.

Visa sponsorship is possible for candidates with highly relevant experience in emerging markets, particularly gained in Africa.

At a glance, what can you expect to do in this role?

    Focus on pre-investment ESG & impact due diligence and present your analysis and recommendations at investment committee meetings. This is because the firm is currently focused on deal origination and the deployment of capital in the African continent.

    Further formalise and develop Gridworks' day-to-day approach and ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of Gridworks’ recently developed Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). You'll also embed updated ESG policies and oversee the implementation of portfolio company ESG KPI reporting.

    Engage with stakeholders within portfolio companies to enable the implementation of post-investment action plans and value creation initiatives, including the establishment of community engagement projects.

    Provide ongoing ESG and impact training to the investment team to ensure further uptake and fluency throughout the investment process for authentic ESG and impact integration.
