Kew REACH (Restoration, Enhancement, Adaptation and Creation of Habitats) was created in 2023 as a joint venture between Greensphere Capital’s Gaia Sciences Innovation (GSI) Platform and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew).

Kew REACH’s mission is to be the world’s pre-eminent, science-led, high-trust, habitat consulting firm, powered by RBG Kew’s unparalleled scientific reputation, integrity and expertise.

Kew Science has identified poor nature investment as a significant threat to global biodiversity. Kew also recognises the significant role Nature-based Solutions (NBS) can play in addressing climate change. The rapidly growing nature investment and consultancy sector can be open to misinterpretation and even exploitation by industry and governments, in turn leading to poor investment decisions, reputational risk and lack of meaningful action to protect the planet.

RBG Kew has been providing direct consulting services over several decades to large clients including nation states and global corporates.

To maximise the impact of RBG Kew’s impact, Kew REACH will offer genuine scientific credentials, transparency, data and accountability at scale in a market where these qualities are often lacking.

Kew REACH aims to be the market leader in trusted advice to owners of Forestry, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) assets.

The science of nature and NBS – particularly the emergent area of vital below ground ecosystems – is evolving rapidly. Without a science-led approach even well-intentioned NBS projects are at risk of ineffective or counterproductive outcomes and future accusations of greenwashing.

Kew REACH will advise on and help implement a wide range of leading ecosystem services (ESS) outcomes globally to clients wanting to deploy NBS to restore, enhance and create urban, agricultural, forestry and conservation landscapes. Kew REACH is unique in offering a full stack of advisory-to-delivery services, including assessment, high-resolution measurement, AI analytics, capability-building, enhancement and restoration planning, implementation, long-term monitoring and evaluation across all forms of natural capital - plants, trees, fungi, invertebrates, animals, air, water, pollination and nutrients.

Kew REACH is powered by Kew Science comprising over 400 of the world’s leading researchers that work with some of the world’s leading and largest collections including the living collections at Kew and Wakehurst Gardens- the Herbarium[1], Fungarium[2], and the Millenium Seed Bank and Millennium Seed Bank Partnership.[3]

Kew Science is also leading in its understanding of below-ground biodiversity and carbon, the principal indicator for successful NBS. Kew REACH outputs come ‘Kew-approved’.

In the face of the global climate and biodiversity crisis, we urgently need more investment into solutions based on the best available science. Mitigating these real risks requires evidence-led, science-based solutions, not anecdotes and spin.

Britain is home to many of the world’s best bio and environmental science researchers, but the commercial potential in their breakthroughs is too often being overlooked. We want to unlock a pipeline of exciting ventures that are based on brilliant ideas, that operate with scientific integrity, that are grounded in a contextual understanding of the complex natural systems and are alert to the risks of unforeseen consequences.
