A high-impact global retailer is partnering with Acre to appoint a Bangladesh Country Manager, to lead the expansion of the company's multi-million, industry-leading Sustainable Agriculture Programme. This growing programme currently supports nearly 100,000 smallholder farmers helping them to grow more socially and economically sustainable cotton and then procuring the cotton that they grow into the supply chain.

This new role has been created due to the rapid growth of the programme and the organisation's long-term ambitions. The role is equally integrated within both the Regional Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team and the UK-based global Sustainable Cotton team.

This is an exciting and inspiring opportunity to deliver a flagship sustainability programme that reaches across both social and environmental issues and is embedded in the operation and governance of global supply chains.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Oversee social, environmental and structural due diligence of the sustainable cotton supply chain for Bangladesh.

  • Build and manage relationships with existing and new programme partners, supply chain partners and other parts of the business.

  • Support the development of the implementation of the traceability system of the supply chain from raw material to the final product.

  • Communicate ESG risks, remediation progress and interventions to key internal teams including the central ESG support team as well as the Senior Ethical Trade Manager for the region.

  • Overseeing and driving programme innovations to deepen the positive impact of the programme across the whole supply chain.

  • Overseeing development and implementation of a comprehensive Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) framework for the Programme.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, flexible, solutions-oriented leader, capable of driving programme growth and impact in an ambitious and fast-paced supply chain programme.

This programme is one of the most ambitious and advanced in the industry; consequently, the role commands a great deal of attention and scrutiny both within and outside the business.

You will have:

  • A strong track record in supply chain procurement and/or management, with a deep understanding of sustainability topics within agriculture.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to deliver complex programmes in a fast-changing environment.

  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and engagement skills, able to engender trust and foster collaboration between partners, farmers and regional sites across Bangladesh.

  • Previous demonstrable success of creating and managing partnerships.

  • Proven experience managing complex projects, including identifying and managing risk in a highly dynamic environment.

  • Ability to travel frequently within Bangladesh.
