Senior Sustainability Production Manager

Penguin Random House UK are the UK's largest publisher, made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. The organisation makes books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

With excellent sustainability credentials and programmes underway and an exciting range of targets set, Penguin Random House are now seeking a Senior Sustainability Production Manager to lead this programme, be part of the central production department, and improve their global supply chain.

​

In this role, you will be the go-to expert on sustainability, both internally and externally. This will involve championing sustainability initiatives, empowering production, and other teams, to make better informed decisions, ensuring the business is compliant with relevant industry legislations.

​

Other key responsibilities include:

• Keeping the business up to speed on sustainability commitments across production, freight, packaging, and overall pressure points throughout the supply chain. Its your commitment to influence internal business areas, sharing best practices to meet the set targets- such as climate neutrality by 2030.

• Collaborating closely with external suppliers to investigate progress, verify data, and ensure you are driving action as much as possible in accordance with global decarbonisation strategies. You use an evidence and data-based approach to make decisions and are comfortable with carbon accounting and verification as part of the strategy.

• Horizon scanning for other sustainability and ESG trends which would be relevant for the business and building these into the core strategy if relevant. You bring new ideas, enjoy embedding best practice, and getting stuck in.

Having fantastic industry and sustainability knowledge is crucial for this role, as you will be using your expertise to educate others and bring them along on the journey with you, as you lead from the front.

What you'll also bring to the role:

• A track record of working on environmental and ethical challenges within supply chains. You are passionate about the work required in this space and how to get there, whilst also communicating and influencing stakeholders where required.

• Prior exposure to a manufacturing, production, or materials linked supply chain.

• A proactive and collaborative style, you enjoy working with others whether it be in internal teams, external third parties or a client- you thrive with collaboration.
