Acre is delighted to partner with WaterEquity to help them identify their next Chief Investment Officer (CIO). WaterEquity is an impact investment manager dedicated to mobilizing private sector investments in water and sanitation in emerging and frontier markets. Reporting directly to the President and sitting on the Executive Committee, the CIO will oversee all aspects of capital deployment and portfolio management and lead a global investment team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leading investment strategy and business growth: maintaining a singular focus on expanding access to water and sanitation, developing strategies to grow the investment portfolio and diversify the investment universe; and

  • Leading the investment team: supervising five director-level investment professionals and their teams, spanning the financial institutions, project finance and growth equity asset classes, as well as the impact measurement and risk management groups; and

  • Managing investment vehicles: overseeing all aspects of capital deployment, including pipeline development and screening, due diligence and negotiation, and presentation of opportunities to the Investment Committee;

  • Coordinating and representing: chairing the Investment Committee; partnering with the Director of Impact to ensure mission alignment of strategies; representing WaterEquity at sector events and investor discussions.

Skills and Qualifications

The successful applicant will be a motivated and proven manager with a passion for impact and an ability to oversee a diverse, versatile, and global team. S/he will have the following qualifications:

  • a master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience;

  • fifteen years of experience in finance/banking/investment in emerging markets

  • a minimum of five years of experience investing in private debt or equity in emerging markets;

  • experience managing pooled fund vehicles and/or managed accounts;

  • experience managing a remote, international team;

  • strong communication and leadership skills;

  • a demonstrated commitment to social and environmental impact through impact investing;

  • experience working with impact investors such as development finance institutions;

  • demonstrated ability to design, launch, and scale new projects and initiatives; and

  • a willingness to travel internationally approximately 20-25 percent of the time.

Overall compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and structured to reflect a competitive package for a full-time senior-level executive.
