WaterEquity LLC, a social impact asset management firm and Registered Investment Adviser, is seeking a senior-level professional with experience in the legal and operational functions of asset management.

Individuals with legal or commensurate business experience are invited to apply for this position. The position will report to WaterEquity's Chief Operating Officer and will work with the COO and outside legal counsel to design, launch, and manage WaterEquity's investment funds, which are used to mobilize private sector investments in water and sanitation in emerging and frontier markets. The Director of Legal Operations will manage large transactions and work closely with internal teams to facilitate bringing in and deploying capital, launching new funds, managing existing funds, and contributing to operational excellence in all aspects of WaterEquity's business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Play a critical role in new fund development by working closely with the COO and outside legal counsel to identify, understand, and balance business objectives, investor objectives, applicable regulatory requirements, and standard industry practices.

  • Serve as a liaison between internal business teams and outside fund counsel, maintaining a focus on the balance of business objectives, regulatory and legal requirements, and WaterEquity's mission.

  • Work closely with WaterEquity's finance team to help manage large transactions, including capital calls and debt drawdowns.

  • Work closely with the COO and Chief Compliance Officer to support WaterEquity's compliance program and incorporate internal and external requirements into the design of legal-operational processes (e.g., vendor oversight, contract management, anti-money laundering).

  • Partner with WaterEquity's business development team to provide guidance and deliverables that facilitate investment.

  • Partner with the COO on strategic decisions for efficient, effective operations and participate in relevant internal working groups; and

  • May be required to effectively supervise one or members of the Operations team.

Skills and Qualifications

The successful applicant will be a motivated and proven facilitator and manager with a passion for impact and an ability to work with a diverse, versatile, and global team. S/he will have the following qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience (JD preferred but not required)

  • Ten years of experience in legal/operations in a financial institution, preferably a Registered Investment Adviser

  • Experience working with a remote, international team

  • Excellent analytical and writing skills

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including designing and clearly communicating project steps, roles, and timelines

  • A willingness to travel (domestic and international) approximately 5% of the time.

Location & Compensation

WaterEquity has staff and projects around the globe. Applicants are welcome to apply from any location, provided they have a high degree of comfort using remote-working technology and a willingness to travel.

Overall compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and structured to reflect a competitive package for a full-time senior-level executive. The approximate base is $150,000 + Bonus + Benefits.
