Head of Energy Strategy

Heathrow Airport is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join their team as Head of Energy Strategy.

​

As Heathrow embarks on a net zero plan, the demand for energy will increase, from powering vehicles to producing hydrogen for aircraft. This creates a unique set of strategic choices, risks and opportunities for the business, and they need an expert to lead the way.

​

As Head of Energy Strategy, you will be responsible for:

• Acting as Heathrow's overall expert on energy, keeping up-to-date with technology and market developments, Government policy, best practices, and emerging risks & opportunities.

• Developing and maintaining a long-term energy strategy that maximizes opportunities and manages risks, delivering against the three key drivers of cost, carbon, and resilience.

• Leading a virtual team of experts across key business functions to ensure an integrated approach that translates strategy into delivery, tracked by the right KPIs.

• Identifying key investments required to deliver the energy strategy and developing the business case for them.

• Acting as the key contact point on energy with Heathrow's "net zero partner" and exploring alternative models for the delivery of energy strategy.

• Developing impactful and commercially astute public policies related to energy and advocating them to Government and other stakeholders.

• Representing the company on energy issues with key external stakeholders, including Government and local authorities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A strong background in energy with a deep understanding of the market, technology, and policy landscape.

• Experience in a major energy company (supply/commercial/technology experience) and/or a major infrastructure developer and/or policy/regulatory environment.

• Proven commercial and negotiation experience - understanding the UK energy market and future trends, ability to manage risks and identify opportunities.

• Experience in leading complex, cross-functional work programs and delivering business outcomes on time and within budget.

• Experience in leading virtual teams and achieving results through others.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication/presentation skills.

• A graduate or post-graduate degree with relevant qualifications in energy.

• Experience in dealing with external stakeholders and representing organizations at a senior level.

As Head of Energy Strategy, you will play a significant role in shaping and achieving Heathrow's energy, carbon, infrastructure, and strategy goals. You will work with and influence senior internal stakeholders, including the Executive Committee and Board members, and negotiate with external stakeholders, including Heathrow's net zero partner, energy companies, infrastructure developers, local stakeholders, and Government officials.
